Good websites for those researching Cornish ancestors www(.)cornish-ancestors(.)co(.)uk - all sorts including census, OPC's, directories, parish look up's etc www(.)mytrees(.)com - some free bits including 1871 Cornish census www(.)a2a(.)pro(.)gov(.)uk/ - fascinating reading, but you can find details of apprenticeships, bastardy bonds, etc, plus what your ancestors were sent to do hard labour for! Karen, The best two free sites are the LDS Family Search http://www.familysearch(.)org/ and FreeBMD http://freebmd.rootsweb(.)com/ (IMPORTANT: Click on the red box with 'search' NOT the link to Ancestry at the top of the page) Remember, however, that neither of the above is complete and just because a name isn't there doesn't mean the person wasn't registered. You could also try putting the names you are interested into 'Google', although if it's something like 'Flower' you'll need to use Advanced Search and put Flower Family History and possibly a place name into the top box.....you never know! Another site worth trying is 'Genuki' www.genuki(.)org(.)uk The above has all sorts of information about various areas and links to family history societies, which are also worth exploring; some of them have online lists of 'member's interests' and you might find somebody is already researching your name. Also, try going back through this thread; there are loads of useful and interesting sites mentioned. Sue PS. Remove the brackets round the full stops in the web addresses; we have to put them in because GenesConnected thinks we're spam if we don't. |
