Jean Perkins: I will send you direct link for the Adaware FREE program with step by step directives to download, install and run, via e-mail.....I'm writing them up for you now. You probably won't get until tomorrow due to the time difference between us. Nicola: The directives below, if we are on the same page, should fix your problem: Fixing “Website Can’t Be Found” and other Site Error Messages More than likely you have trouble with accessing quite a few sites.....particularly getting the message "website can't be found" among a few other error messages. Try the following and it should solve your problem. 1. Go to START. 2. Click on CONTROL PANEL. 3. Click on INTERNET OPTIONS. 4 A box appears with tabs labeled across the top. Click on ADVANCED. 5. Scroll down to the sub-heading SECURITY. 6. Make sure the following has check marks next to it: Use USE SSL 2.0, USE SSL 3.0 and USE TLS 1.0. 7. Also make sure you check off EMPTY TEMPORARY INTERNET FILE WHEN BROWSER IS CLOSED. More than likely USE TLS 1.0 is not checked of and it should be. This will give you the error messages, as well as a few others, that will prevent you from viewing web sites and the error you are getting. Judy |

Hi Judy, Downloaded from ada-ware and found 33 which I cleared, however still couldn't access freebmd successfully as the same thing was happening, so I then downloaded a spyware it detected 3 unwanted items but wanted me to subscribe for $39.99 to delete, that's now hit the recycle bin, I think I'll just have to check the freebmd results on ancestry.co.uk, shame really as I found freebmd much quicker and more info. Thanks for the head up on the ada-ware though will definatley do a daily check. Nikii |

Judy : If you are not asleep yet, could you help me please.? I am a complete ignoramus when it comes to computers, not helped by the fact that at my age I am losing 100,000 brain cells a day. (that's my excuse anyway). I clicked the download for ada-ware and it said open or run to get started. An icon for PC protection has appeared on my desktop but I have not got a clue what to do next. Help. Many thanks. Jean. |

Diane: Besides all that Paul has listed, there are some spyware programs that are more vicious than others. When you get numerous spyware programs on your computer it can reak havoc and in some cases, cause your computer to crash....which results in a trip to the repair shop. Although the Adaware program does an excellent job of picking up the spyware, it's important to empty your cookies cache and your temporary internet files as well (Sorry....I sound like a broken record for those of you have read this numerous other times from me on many other threads!) Emptying those two files will also alleviate many pop-ups and will speed up your computer....necessary maintenance jobs if you own a computer! Defragging is another necessary evil. Judy |

Not being overly computer knowledgable, I can only speak from what I have seen in the past few hours since downloading the programme. I have noticed that the pages are coming up quicker There have been to time-out messages Pop-ups have all but disappeared A drop in unsolicited mail I decided to do another scan about 90 minutes ago, only to discover another 30 unwanted pieces of c___, which were quickly disposed of. I think a daily check or two is in order from now on, as another scan programme was not picking this stuff up. Needless to say it has hit the recycle bin. Paul |

Paul.....Glad the Adaware worked for you....amazing, isn't it, the crap sites put on your computer without your knowledge or consent?! Computer technicians make big bucks repairing the damage spyware does when one isn't aware that it is on their computers. Judy |

I decided to follow Judy's advice and download the programme. When I installed and ran it, the results were unbelievable. 162 items, from spyware and porndiallers to hijacking of Outlook etc. Now that they have been removed, the computer is working quicker. Funny thing is, I noticed that some of the messages on the boards had gone. Coincidence or what Paul |

Nicola: Updating anti virus won't help your problem (but should be done!) You have spyware on your computer that needs to be removed. Download the free version of Ada-ware which can be found at www(.)lavasoft(.)com. Install and run the program and it will find and allow you to remove the spyware. Judy |

Are you sure you haven't got some kind of virus. Have you got an up to date antivirus program. I'd update it if you haven't and do a scan of your system. As that sounds strange to me. |
