Whilst trying to trace a family member, I discovered that he had chosen to adopt another forename whilst relegating his original name to second place. I also discovered that another family member had chosen to reverse her forenames. Neither of these were done officially and so I spent many long hours looking for people who used unofficial forenames on legal documents and the like, but were uncovered when the census was taken. In each case the name on the census concerned proved to be the given names on the relevant birth certificates. Hope this helps others searching for elusive family members. |
