Hi Lynda, Getting back to the matter in hand - sending images, not the football! Some census cd's are encrypted, and it just is not possible to copy the pages. This maybe why you are having trouble. Took me a while to suss it out. If you click on the 'file' tab you will find something called either document security or document properties. Click on that and it will tell you what is allowed or not allowed. Like printing - usually yes. Content copying - not allowed. Debbie

Elizabeth Please sell me your daughter for a night, but only if she isn't like my children (adults at that) Who look at me in a certain way when I ask a question and there face says "ah bless she doesn't even know that! Then proceed to do what I ask and then say, Got it? Glad I gave you a laugh, thats what life is about, apart from finding dead people that is. Lynda

Rick Thank you. I will try that over the weekend. I am at a party tonight, and of course the mighty Arsenal are on later, so nothing will be done then. Gary I of course would NEVER dream of doing anything illegal, I only want to know IF you wanted to send an image to yourself could you do it!!!!!! If you ever want a census image sent by me, you would have to send a request in a plain envelope! Come on you Reds Lynda

bob i think if the copyright owner wants to enforce his right there is no degree, you could for instance buy a cd and play it to your freinds, but if you ran them a copy off to take home then you have breached the copyright and as you say they may turn a blind eye to people doing a few for freinds but it is against the copyright, yes for shore pay for an image and you have the right to show it who you like as you can play a music cd to your freinds but copy it and that is breach of copyright, i have seen this spelled out on other sites.

There has been some discussion before about "doing look-ups" and the copywrite issue. I believe that it is a matter of degree. If you do a few for a friend is one thing but if you set up in business is another. If I buy the image of a census page from the PRO then I also buy the right to "show" it to anyone I like. Only if I charge for the privelage would I be breaching copywrite. Bob

i think you wont like me adding my comments to this, but when you go on other more regulated sites . eg www wirksworth org they have pages telling you of the legal implacations of sending people images, i of coarse secretly would never do this (much), it is totaly ilegall to send images to others, you can transcribe the information and sent this written , as the information can not be copyright, but say you sent ma a trascription and i photographed it or photocopyed it then that would be illegal, the information is in the puplic domain but the image is not, i think one day on here somebody may get a claim against them for damages for doing this, i am a member on a lookup website, and i was told by the webmaster that lookups on my derbyshire cd from archive books would not be allowed as the owner had mailed them not to allow this, the ancestry that takes your free trial subscription, may take all your money and the house you live in, be carefull

OK Lynda - think I've sussed it out. When you do "Save a Copy" you get a box with a drop down arrow called "Save in" at the top of the screen. I think your problem is that you are maybe just clicking Save from here. This would try to save it back to the CD, which is a CDROM - read only. If you click the down arrow, it will probably give you the chance to save it in your own folder, like My Documents. Once you've done that it should be easy enough to attach the saved file to an email. You might want to create a special folder to put the images in so you can delete the after ou've sent them - otherwise you might clog up you hard drive. Let me know iof this doesn't make sense, Rick.

Rick You are now talking my language "thingy" I understand that word. This is what I do 1. put disc in drawer "thingy" 2. up comes pdf adobe boxes with folio numbers 3.I then click on the one I want 4. acrobat reader comes up and you choose census image Have got the file wotsit and it says save a copy, but when I press it says the file is full. I have just found someone who I think has the same census as me and have asked what she does to send an image. What I may do is just get a load of stamps and send people images who want them by snail mail. At least I know how to post a letter!!!! Thanks for your help though Rick, I do appreciate it. Lynda

Hi Lynda, Glad I've been of some use - about time some might say !! When you look at your discs, are you doing it through the same sort of Internet Explorer window you do to get everywhere else (like here) or is some different thingy that came with the disc ? When you've got an image on screen, is there an option on the file menu top left to do save or save as ? Rick.

Hi Rick Well you've helped me suss out how to send from Ancestry, thats fine. Thanks very much. Now from the discs if I right click, there is no option to copy. Have outlook Express, can't get an option to paste. When I try to save it it's saying disk is full, try saving to other disc, How? As you can tell Rick I just use the computer, don't know how to work it. Shall I just ask my very clever whizz kid neighbour, who tells me what to do, and when he says do I know what I'm doing I say yes, just because I haven't a clue what he's talking about and think he must be thinking my goodness she IS stupid? He's really nice though, but light years ahead of me!! Lynda

Hi Lynda, I definitely owe you one (or several actually), so let's give it a shot ! I don't see why census images should be any different to any other image, so bearing in mind I don't have any to experiment with..... If you right-click an image, do you get a menu with a "copy" option on it ? If you do, then select this. What email client do you use - is it Outlook or Outlook Express ? Whatever it is, try to create a new email and then right-click on it and select paste. Does this work, or don't you get the option ? Another suggestion would be to save the image to disk temporarily. Then, when you create the new email, click the paper-clip button and browse to the folder you saved it in. Let me know if you have any luck ! Rick.
