Lisa....off hand I can only explain GC cookies still being there, after you've deleted the cookies cache, is because you are still at GC site when emptying?

Judy Hi, I have just tried to empty my temporary internet files as I have done before (after following your instructions I hasten to add), only this time they did not all go! I highlighted them all, as before, and thought all were done, deleted them, and some popped back again. So I tried the procedure again on these last remaining ones, but they won't go! Can you advise me as to why they should still be there? They are mostly genesconnected ones I have to say! Would appreciate your much welcomed advice. Thanks so much Lisa

Whew...Colin explained that well! (Nice job!) Sharon....cookies and temporary internet files, when deleted, go to your recycling bin....which you would then empty. Judy

Karen: You're doing nothing wrong. When you click on the yellow temporary internet folder if there is only what you are describing, there is nothing for you to do....the file you describe has to do with the operating system. If you click open the yellow temporary internet folder and see website addresses right off the bat, those are the files you want to get rid of. Windows XP generates several temporary internt folders....not all of them collect temporary internet files. Judy

Hi Judy For some reason, I can't see the actual files to delete! I have opened the Temporary Internet Files folder, within that is another folder called Content.ies, and within that folder are four more folders with code names, but have nothing in them. However, I know the files are there, because when I carry out a virus scan it takes ages to scan them all. Am I doing something wrong? Have managed to clear out my cookies folder successfully! Best wishes, Karen

John: If you have Norton, it does not necessarily mean you have a firewall. Norton is actually two programs in one. One is a firewall, the other an anti virus. They work independently of each other. (The two programs, depending on what version of Norton you purchased, come on the same disk or can be purchased seperately....which would explain if you have one or the other or both programs.) Norton anti virus doesn't interfere with accessing sites, Norton Firewall does. As for not being able to access Free BMD, have you tried changing settings in your control panel (I have instructions on how and what to change on another thread.) Changing the settings should fix the problem of not being able to access site. If you have Norton Firewall installed on your computer you'll have to set up, in the Norton options, an exception or just temporarily turn off the firewall to bypass it if after changing the settings in Control Panel, you still can't view the site. Hi guys! Messenger is a program that you can uninstall opposed to disabling. If it's not a program that you use no sense in wasting space on your hard drive. 1. START 2. CONTROL PANEL 3. ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS 4. Scroll the list, click once on the program name to highlight and click on the REMOVE button. Judy

The other disable was on log on, but I have since enabled that. I couldn't find admin tools buta search found it. So far so good. Cheers John PS I have Norton, does that give a firewall? Also I can't access Free BMD even with Norton off. I have tried to follow the instuctions they provide and none of the tabs they mention are there. Can you provide info?

John if you have gone to control panel/adminitritivetools/services/ messenger and clicked it the box (headed messenger service local computer) should have three options auto/manual/disable. You have two disables? ( the main one is next to "start up type") If you have any problems you can reverse it but I have not heard of any. If you have not stopped it (in status below) it will be disabled on reboot. If you dont have a firewall, get one. At least turn on the XP one. Let me know how you go. Bob

Dave, Sorry about that oversite (on my part.) XP's feature is SEARCH and the other Windows operating systems feature is FIND. Judy
