I've stopped counting. It's more healthy that way: reduces the chances of a heart attack. |

TO actually confirm things like dates of marriage etc I've forked out loads, if you want exact dates of birth and marriage places then you fork out for certificates, unless you are lucky enough to keep them up the loft. one family member married 3 times and had four children, to sort them out I need seven certificates and I still don't know when he died : exept it was after 1901. if you guess or trust to luck then you end upt going up the wrong tree,if your not careful! i've done it myself, by copying a tree off ancestry where all the marriages were wrong and to the wrong people with the wrong surnames!! Angela To Back up waht you find on websitesor LDS site you really need to see the real thing and that means visiting records centres etc and that can cost money but you can get a real buzz out of it,if you find i.e. marraige entries then they will do you a copy which is much cheaper than the real thing! I pesonally don't think you can do all your research on the Net correctly but some one will correct me I'm sure Ann |

I've already got to the stage where I need to spend some money and I'm only up to 1880s! What are the free websites that you mention? |

Hi, I've really started getting into this now, but the realisation has hit me that it is going to cost a few bob. I'm taking a trip up the FRC this Saturday with my mum and aunt as they are both really interested in tracing our family back too. We've only got to the 1880s. Out of curiosity how much money have you spent on certificates so far in your research? Do you have to obtain all certs (birth/marriage/death?) to get it right? You can tell I'm new to this can't you. All replies greatly received. Thanks Ange |
