I think Rick has explained well there. But if your problem is with the disk itself......I have to put my disc in then open it through my computer and double click the disc drive its in. Then it comes on. Have you got abode acrobat reader on your computer? You need that to read the disc.

If you follow this through step-by-step you should get there in the end. I really don't get why they ask you to put it on floppy. The files you download are compressed (including SSCENS) and extract themselves to the location you run them from. All I did was follow the download instructions, but put them all in a new folder called FC on my C: drive. Then again, I work in IT and always ignore all the instructions in the manuals LOL! I then double-clicked on SSCENS, CSVCHK and GENIE01 to extract the compressed files. After that you need to print everything out that Terry suggests on the Devon site and play around with the CENSDEMO file to see how it all works. It's complicated !! I'm going to leave trying to do my first few pages until tomorrow as the wine has now kicked in ;-) Hope some of this makes sense. Rick.

Jo, Susie and Rick, I had already downloaded the software. I brought up SSCENS and tried to load the disk but nothing happens (apart from a great deal of whirring). Apparently a code word is needed to exit from SSCENS. I've just had to close the computer down to exit! What am I doing wrong? Rosemary(Essex)

Hi, for those who are stuck on what to do you need to go onto the frecen site and down load all the things you need. On the web page it is under Transcriptions, soft ware to do it. You need the SSCENS. There is also the GENIE that is very good to help you with place names etc. I also printed the pages out so I had them to hand because you do have to shorten some family members titles, like, brother in law to brolaw and also the codes for birth place etc. If you look at the censdemo you can see how things are to put in the columns. You need the blank to start your work on. The census discs you got are just how they would be sold as you go scroll down it will have page by page as it was done. Susie, My problem is UI am not very adept at using the computer. I can usually get a disk up and working though. Do you think someone just forgot to add an instruction leaflet, or are we all expected to be Computer whizzes? I made myself get all the housework done this morning then sat down with a coffee to look at the disk. Iwas sofrustrated when I couldn't get it to work. Still the cleaning is done Rosemary(Essex)

help!!!!!! ive just recieved my cd this morning,but havent a clue wat to do next! how do i start .i inserted it into my driver and now im stuck i thought there would be instructions with it but theres nothing please could someone help me susie
