Well, I transcribed two whole pieces (Derbyshire & Kent), submitted them in 2003 and they still haven't appeared on line! I've sent several messages and nothing's happened so I've given up on the whole thing. It's a bit demoralising after all those hours of work........ Mary |

That's a shame Mary. I do believe they have to go through rigorous checks first. Perhaps they need more poeple to help with the checking procedure. Or maybe the people who were coordinating those areas have had to give up for personal reasons. Jeanette x |

I don't have any problem with having my work checked - however, it shouldn't take 18 months (to date)! If there's that much of a checking backlog what chance do the rest of you stand? Because of local co-ordinator problems in June 2003 I actually sent one set of the fiches and a transcription disk to the FreeCen cordinator so that he could re-assign. Of the two that I did, one had over 8000 entries and the other over 5000. When I transcribed for FreeBMD (over 6000 entries) the work was regularly updated so that the information appeared on screen very soon. FreeCen should publish all of the outstanding submissions with the proviso that the work is unchecked and may be subject to revision later on. It is a very worthwhile project, but I'm very disappointed that my work has gone into a black hole. Regards, Mary |

Each piece that is sent to freecen is checked twice. They do need people to do checks. If you think how long it takes to transcribe then it is the same to check. Then needs uploading to the site. Please remember it is still quite new and all done by volunteers, just like you. Freebmd work is uploaded to the site, and then checked. You can see what has been checked by the colour coding. Freecen is checked before it goes on site. Mary your work will be very much appreciated by many people. What area were you doing? Jo :) |

Sorry to hear you've given up Susie. Apparently they're short of people to check the work the transcribers have done. Perhaps you could volunteer for that! ;-) Jeanette x |

It is so sad you feel disheartend Susie, it really isn't a waste of time. Have you given your work back? I can try and find out what is happening for Gloucestershire, I will try and help. Mary was your work in Kent? RG12/0710 is being validated at the moment. There was major problems in Kent but that has been resolved now. Let me know what area and I will try and help. Jo |

Just so some of you reading this will know that work is still on going This is just from this area, Carol Barber is the Co-Ordinator We have 24 pieces uploaded for 1891 Yorkshire, 1 for 1871 Yorkshire (Ardsley Barnsley area) and 4 for 1891 Durham. There are 20 pieces being checked and a further 18 to be allocated for checking. There are 24 pieces awaiting validation and I can assure you I am doing as much as I can each night to get more on the net. Jo |
