Hi all you transcriber's Have you come across a line with only the schedule no,house no and street but nothing else, waiting for Carol my co-ordinator to reply but wondered if any one else had come across it!! Regards Ann,1861 for Darlo

Unknown Report 20 May 2004 20:09

Hi Ann, are you well? I haven't come across it but may be it was an empty house. I would have thought just putting , oh cant think of hand!, in the boxes and then in the the last column whats missing! If that makes sense! Will get my things out and have a look!

Unknown Report 20 May 2004 20:16

Got them! Hyphen was what I was looking for! I would think put a hyphen in each cell and x next to them and in Y write what the problem is.

Hi Jo Thanks that's what I thought but wondered if any one had come across it as didn't want to carry on to have to do it all again. Yes I'm well just been to Italy it was hectic but great! Hope you are well and not too busy Ann,Dalington

Unknown Report 20 May 2004 21:50

Hope you had a nice time in Italy Ann. When I'm not sure and need to ask I write down the number from the excel sheet and carry on. If I need to change it I can soon find it by the number. Well thats what I do but there might be better ideas.

Just thought I'd say HI to everyone as I haven't seen this thread for a while. Hope the 'transcribbling' is going well! Ann - I haven't come across that yet. Please let us know the outcome. Jo - Good thinking. Wish I'd thought of that! lol When I was doing a bit yesterday I came across a young servant girl who gave her birthplace as Yorkshire, Dog Kennel! Made me feel quite sad. And while I'm here, my enumerator has devloped 2 very annoying habits. The fist one is that he puts the street name for the 1st house in the street then the ones that follow have no address. I've just been putting a hyphen in column G then a note in column Y. Also he hasn't been putting a marital status in for people under the age of 16. Again I've put a hyphen and a note in column Y. What would you do? Jeanette

Unknown

Unknown Report 20 May 2004 22:46

Hi Jeanette, I would put the marital status as its written. If you are doing 1861 i'm sure they could still get married very young with consent. Will have to check up but I think for girls as young as 12. It can be very strange looking into so many peoples lives cant it? Good luck everyone.

Ann L from Darlo Report 20 May 2004 23:08

Hi Jeannette I was told not to put a marital status unless it says so,don't presume. And if there is nothing in for the street to put a hyphen --if it has a ditto then you follow on with the above street name. My reply to my query I put on my last message---to put a U in the H column as it must be an uninhabited house. Hope all that sounds clear Ann

Unknown Report 20 May 2004 23:15

Ann, I didnt read what jeanette had wrote properly. Yes dont put anything in unless it says a marital status. Must be time for bed!

Thanks Jo and Ann That's what I've done but I thought I'd ask as it looks such a flaming mess now with all those crosses and hyphens all over the place. Think I was hoping I could tidy it up a bit! Jeanette

Unknown Report 20 May 2004 23:42

Jeanette, I dont think its meant to look tidy! LOL. Does your census look tidy? Mine sure doesn't. My house should but not if I get on here! Best wishes, Jo.

Jo Mine looked beautiful until I got to this enumerator! He can't write, spell or fill a census form in properly. God knows how he got the job. As for tidyness of houses - just don't go there! lol Jeanette
