Hi Ann I'm in Taynton - that is about 10 miles west of Gloucester - out near Newent way. I've not been to any meetings because I always felt that it would be Gloucester based and I don't have any family (alive or dead) in this area - I'll come along with you though - you never know what is there 'till you ry it! Where are you and where are the meetings? Sylvie

Sheila, Pleased you enjoyed it and joined Glos FHS. Wasn't it crowded. My husband alsways remarks on how mixed the ages/types of people are who go, from the very ol;d to the very young, male/female. Sylvie, As you see I am a member, sorry you missed the fair. I have not booked to go to Kew. I ma sure hat everyone will be friendly on the trip. Where exactly do you live? Do you go to the meetings of GFHS? i haven't been to one yet, mainly because i don't fancy walking into a room full of strangers on my own, although, as I have said i am sure they would be friendly. Ann - I made it to the Glos show and it was well worth it (1st one I've been to and have now joined Glos FHS!) LOADS of people there - it was like 'Antiques Roadshow' (in terms of volume of people, not age, I hasten to add). Found out about 5 things I didn't know, got a certificate 'decoded', and chatted to some very friendly people.

I've seen this too late! Are any of you members of glos fhs? There is a trip to Kew in May. I've booked a place and don't know a soul! I'm just west of Gloucester, strange to find others so near but so far! Sylvie

I went and it was great, loads there and lots of people too. pity you couldn't make it Linda and Sam, and there I was looking for 'the vicar of Dibley'! Must have stared at loads of people wondering if I knew them. There were lots of bargains to be had, past issues of the different societies qharterly magazines for 10p a time etc. There were lots of societies there too - Berkshire, Oxford, wiltshire, Somerset 7 Dorset, Dorset, Gloucester of course, Glamorgan (where a nice man found my husband's grandfather's death for me on the burial index), Cardiganshire, bristol and Avon. Then there was the man who sells the large family trees to write on, a lady with photo albums, postcard sellers, book stalls, stall selling Pigots discs etc. I was there over two hours, and husband was happy because there was also a snack bar where you could get tea, coffee and bacon rolls etc. Ann Glos

Me neither :( My daughter had a football match and what with taking advantage of the lovely "drying" weather, bed-changing etc... Just didn't have time, duvet covers blowing nicely in the breeze;)

Hi Mary, As I've said, I'm going because I don't have much time to get away for the big fairs. I'm only thinking about going to RHS in May because I'm originally from the London area and I can get a bed for the night (hopefully). I just want to see what's on offer, as I'm fairly new to this and don't have any CD's at the moment. Friday's are my day off (TGIF!) and I'm usually on the computer for most of the day trying to get info., or I'm checking it. It would be good to meet the other Glos. folk!! Best wishes, Lynne

I haven't been to one of these Fairs yet. They don't come down this way as they're so poorly attended when they have ventured further south than Bristol. Is there any point going to a Fair in a different area to the ones being researched? My lot are London, Suffolk and Derbyshire, all rather too far for a day's visit, so what, if anything, would I find useful at, say, the Gloucester one (not that I can come because I'm looking after grand-daughter!) have you seen that there will be representatives therefrom Somerset & Dorset FHS, Dorset FHS Glamorgam FHS, wiltshire FHS, Bristol and Avon FHS and probably others as well as loads of trade stall, postcard stalls etc. I am looking forward to it. Ann Glos

I probably won't be going as I went to the Glamorgan one last Sunday but I hope you all enjoy. (Yellow Rucksack if I do) Can I recommend this site to you (http://members(.)aol.com/aquarterma/familyhistoryfairs(.)html) It gives details of FH fairs but Gloucester is not on as I think it is a different organisation

Sorry about that, lived in Gloucester for 12 years but never have got the roads sorted in that area, I just think of the whole A38 as Eatern Ave when it does in fact change names and the crypt is on the corner of Podsmead and Cole ave (I think. As Geof has said, go to the GFHS web site and there are very good directions from all area. Sorry again for misleading you. ann Glos
