LOOKING FOR 1851 & 1861 KENT CENSUS LOOK-UPS PLEASE in Greenwich, Woolwich, Thanet, or Deptford by name and age only (sorry, I have no addresses) Does any kind soul out there have this info that they could pass on to me First of all, if I'm on the wrong bit of this site, I applogise. I've been going round in circles trying to figure out how to post a message here. 1851 and/or 1861 Census - Greenwich or Woolwich; John GOSDEN, Age 40-50 in '51; Mary Ann GOSDEN, Age 12ish in '51; Emily GOSDEN, Age 14ish in '51 RE: Mary Ann, if she doesn't show up in '61 as Gosden, please could you try the sirname APPLETON? I think she might have had a first marriage. 1871 Census - Greenwich, Woolwich, Thanet or Deptford St Paul; Mary Ann TOMPSON, age 31ish (with Richard TOMPSON); Edward John GOSDEN or John APPLETON, age 1yr (same baby, born illegitimately and then mysteriously had his name changed for him, maybe because of aunt Mary Ann's first marriage); Jane Francis GOSDEN, age 25 (baby's mother). Explanation: In 1881 census Mary Ann and Richard TOMPSON are listed as John APPLETON's stepparents in Deptford St Paul. He was my GGrandfather, and because his birth certificate was never changed he took back the Gosden sirname on his marriage. Thank you to anyone who can do this for me. Sincerely Jo (nee Gosden) |

My Kentish ancestors are my most elusive ancestors! I'm looking for DUTTON - William, Joseph and James. I've tracked them back to 1881 in St Mary Cray... but where were William and Joseph born and when? BEADLE - James and Sarah Emily. Sarah was born c.1858 in North Cray and married Joseph Dutton. PAYNE - Arthur and Ann. Both were born in Northamptonshire but moved to Kent sometime after 1886. When and when did they die? They had a daughter called Ethel. Can anyone help? |

To take advantage of the new search facility, please can we all make sure we include Kent in the title of all relevant threads. Even if the lookup is more specific e.g. Maidstone. This will help if we want to search for all Kent related threads. I for one, often pass over threads titled things like -- So and So Please Help and concentrate my limited time where I think I might have info Thanks, Ann |
