Hi Sally Elizabeth Smale is married on the 1881 census at Ashton-u-Lyne Lancashire, her name is Elizabeth Sharratt and she is a widow, her son James William was born 4 months after the death of her husband. I have her marriage certificate and it shows her fathers occupation as a Smith. Thanks a million for your help, perhaps I can help you or someone else in the future. Cheers Frances

Hi Sally Thank you for look up re Elizabeth Smale, the information I got for place of birth was on the 1881 census, she was living in Ashton-u-Lyne Lancashire then. I think perhaps a northerner wouldn't quite understand a Devon accent as I could not find Exbourne on map, no disrepect to either Northerners or Devonians. Thank you for trying Frances
