Liz the access to archives site is brilliant for locating documents - add it to your favourites now. It's www[.]a2a[.]org[.]uk. Don't forget to remove brackets. It's very easy to use, I typed in St Francis Hospital and it came up with one item: Ref HC Mid-Downs District Health Authority 1754-1981. It's at the East Sussex Record office in Lewes. The bad news is info on patients is confidential for 100 years after the record is made and I guess your relie is within that, as the hospital has only been St Francis since 1948. You can e-mail the Record Office at archives@eastsussexcc[.]gov[.]uk - again, remember to remove brackets. Also, Amazon have a book you might be interested in: Sweet Bells Jangled Out of Tune: a history of the Sussex Lunatic Asylum (St Francis hospital, Haywards Heath) by James Gardner for £9. Happy hunting, Helen. |
