Gaynor Saw that you were looking for people in Shere. Have you been there? It is such a lovely place. There was, I don't know if it is still there, a lovely Museum in the village. It gets exceptionally busy in the Summer. A very pretty place... Kind Regards Sarah.X

Sarah, Thank you for your comment - to answer your question - yes and no!!! I was born in Godalming and have probably been to Shere many times as a small child - however, at the grand age of 50 I don't remember any of it. Just brought my hubby in to read your posting - he guessed by the inquisitive, pleading look on my face - OK he said, we'll go in a few weeks time. YESSSSSS - thank you Sarah :-))))))) Gaynor xx

Hi Patricia, Do you have any first names? There are so many that I'd be here all day if I had to type out all the matches. I'm not able to just copy and paste. Crista

Thank you so much Crista. I will keep for future use. I think i'm going to have to order his marriage cert to get the names relating to him but I'm absoultely sure that one of the three couples you gave me will be his parents. Boo! Hoo! Many thanks again, it will spur me on to go back to my Hammonds. Pam

Hi Crista. Just noticed your message regarding pre-1837 Surrey marriages. I know you are a very busy lady, but if you could find time to follow up on these for me I'd be ever so grateful. David SARGENT Bn. 1785 = Elizabeth RIDLEY abt 1803 in Burstow, Surrey. Thomas SARGENT bn. 1809 = Mary LAKER in Burstow, Surrey. Any details on these and any SCOTT marriages from around Burstow, Horne and Horley areas would be very welcome indeed. Good hunting Jim

Jim, David SARGENT to Elizabeth RIDLEY 26/10/1803 in Horne Thomas SERGEANT bn. 1809 = Mary LAKER 13/04/1825 in Horne. Do you have any first names for the Scotts as there are quite a few of them? Crista

Jim

Jim Report 25 May 2004 21:54

Hi Crista. Many thanks for the reply and what you sent regarding the SARGENT families confirms our patchy infoas well as gives positive dates. Regarding the SCOTT family, that is where I have become stuck as all I have is George SCOTT bn 1830 and subsequently married a lady by the name of Esther ? ? so any previous marriages under that name and information from Horne or Horley would possibly fit as that is where all my fathers family seem to come from. Obliged to you for the effort and hope you may crack this one as well. Regards and good hunting Jim

Good Morning Crista Many thanks for the info and should I now possibly call you (Potential) cousin? That's a turnup for the books isn't it, I would not have dreamt we had a possible link. That after all is the beauty of being a Genie (alogist) you never know what is going to turn up! Anyway, you have once again tied down some more little pieces of my existing jigsaw at the same time you've given me another avenue to explore The JUPPS! I will be in touch if we prove anything. Muchas Gracias (as they say in Somerset) Yours Jim

Gaynor I've just stumbled upon your reply to me. I am sooo glad to have helped you. If you pop 'Shere Museum' into your google search, you will be able to find out more about it, i.e. opening times etc... As I say, parking can be tricky there, so if you do decide to go, I would suggest you go fairly early. Let me know how you get on, won't you?? Kind Regards Sarah.XX
