I have the pre 1837 rural Surrey marriage index if anyone needs lookups. No emails please! Please post a message here and list: 1)First name 2)rough decades 3)parishes. Here's a description of what areas are covered: "More than 162,100 marriages in mainly rural Surrey. However, included are: over 1,100 marriages in Battersea (1802-1837); over 10,000 in Bermondsey; over 5,500 in Camberwell; over 1,500 in Lambeth (1718-1724) and over 3000 in Southwark St Saviour (1605-1625). There are no marriages for Newington, Rotherhithe, Streatham or Wandsworth" Crista |

Crista Hi you lovely lady and thanks for this – you could be my Saviour !!! I am so confused over my Edgingtons – from 1841 census I cannot determine who belongs to who!! They were all in the parish of Shere (sometimes Shiere). If there aren’t too many that go with the name of Edgington – all of them would be useful as I think they are ALL mine – not that common a name!!! If that’s too much to ask, then would you please look up the marriage of Thomas Edgington to Amelia Martin in Shere – guess it would be circa 1825 ish. I have been able to trace quite a few Edgington kids, but know they don’t all belong to Thomas and Amelia – I think Thomas may have had a brother called George, any info on his marriage roundabout the same dates would be great – if that’s poss. That’s my prob – no idea who Thomas and George’s parent were. And – to be even cheekier, and also in Shere – can you find a marriage between Abraham Jones and Ann ?? The only info I can help you with here is on the 1841 Abraham was 30 and Ann 26 (I think) and their eldest child is 7 – so about 1833/4? Just to confuse – there appears to be a gang of Edgingtons in Albury/Godstone as well, probably a connection somewhere and somehow!!! Ooooo – am so excited – I have been pulling my hair out with this lot for quite some time. Gaynor xxxx |
