In my continuing saga of my missing gt gt grandparents Charles Fenton and Kate Hudson (couldn't find a marriage or births for them anywhere) I have managed to find on the IGI this marraige:......... CHARLES FENTON/KATE HODSON 18 APR 1864 Pentonville London there first child was born 1863 and they lived in London (although they travelled as actors all over the country) Should I assume that the birth cert I have with Kate on as a mother is either a misspell or that the IGI is a misspell and this is my correct marriage and I should hunt down the cert? this is my one chink of light |

I wish I could find my problem marriage with a match as near as yours. I would say it looks very likely. Cheers Chris |

Those are both very near matches and it is not unusual for the IGI to miss spell words/names. I have Tony's great grandmother on the IGI born in St Brenden Hills Summerset (sic) Wales. Ann glos |

Arrived back from down south yesterday and there was my shiny marriage certificate on the doormat. Happy to say that HODSON was the correct surname and I now have their fathers names (a comedian and a singer no less) and I'm merrily working my way through the census' to get all the info. I've fingers crossed for a family connection to Henrietta Hodson - famous actress who discovered Lilly Langtree!!!! |

Hi Zoe I too have actors/comedians/entertainers in my tree - going back so far to the 1860's. Did you know there is a Theatre Museum in Covent Garden? E-mail them at tmenquiries(at sign)vam.ac.uk with details of your ancestors. I got back some fantastic information. Let me know how you get on. |

These little things can drive you spare. I initially had a bit of a dilemma when I tried looking for a marriage for an ancestor of mine, Louisa Grace GOULD. Found one in 1908, but to my horror found that there were two other people listed, Edward Horace SANDERS and Edward Horace LANDERS! Felt that one had to be an error. Had a slice of good fortune as we discovered some letters hidden away, written from Louisa's sister and it referred to the name LANDERS in the letters so that was a blessed relief. |

It's getting groovier: Just discovered that one of Charles and Kate's children, Nellie (also an actress) was married to CHarles Macdona in 1892. I had them on a later census living with her mother but always took it to be a mistranscription of macdonald but I just found the marriage on freebmd. Anyway - turns out Charles Macdona and the Macdona Players were the producers/official company for George Bernard Shaw's plays and toured them around the UK. See - i always told my Mum that acting up was in the blood ;o) |
