My mother was chatting with my brother's girlfriend's mum today, and they were talking about people in the past, and both remembered how a family member - in my mum's case her own mother, in the other, her mother-in-law - wouldn't allow them in to their houses after having children until they had been to church and had themselves 'cleansed'. Does anyone else know of this, and why it was done. Seemingly there is a special prayer in the Common Prayer Book for it. This was in the 1960's, and I think my mum found it upsetting, especially when I was born in 1969, as I'd been kept in the isolation hospital. Helen |
