I have a strong suspicion from things my Mother - now dead, said but would NOT elaborate on, cantankerous old devil, that my Grandad was imprisoned for fraud in the late '20s or '30s. At least he was not seen for 5 years. Any ideas how to start? No idea where he was working, what job, anything. In fact the last written reference I have for him is the supplement to the London Gazette 6 april 1918, 2nd Lt John Merry Paterson HLI, citation for Gallantry. I know that was for an event at the 3rd Battle of Ypres 26 Sept 1917 for which he was awarded the MC, but that's it, apart from his marriage and death cert. |
