ancestry have answered my query about the BMD and will be posting a correction as soon as possible. As the replies say, with 70 million entries it might take a few weeks. Martin |

Martin, I hope you have more luck, because no-one has answered my thread regarding the problem although I can't understand why they removed the BMD column from the searches, even if it did work, it would still take longer than it used to. Di |

I had really realised their system was so badly screwed up. left a message on an ancestry board to report it. Martin |

Oh Cripes!!! did not know about that, have just gone & had a look, I ticked birth for the query and got Zero matches, so I then ticked all types, and got the birth!!! Have just recently renewed subscription, but did not know that this part had been altered, usually use the site mainly for the census, but if I find the BMD site a bit slow (which it can be) then I switch to Ancestry. No wonder I have recently been finding "no matches"! As you mention, what a cheek, making alterations where none were needed, why do "they" muck us about like this? |

I have found this annoying too. Think I might not renew my subscription. All the same information is on FreeBMD only more user-friendly. |

I had thought this was just me & I'd been dreaming it told you which were births, deaths or marriages. Have just posted a message on ancestry but have also found the following email for L Brown - lbrownatmyfamilyinc(.)com replace at with symbol (cannot seem to get symbol to show) -will wait & see if I get a reply to the post first. You can select Birth, Marriage or Death on the search form. FreeBMD has more flexible searches but it can be slow or even fail so I often use ancestry for BMD searches but it depends on what I am searching for. Ancestry also has some records post 1903 - the deaths from after 1983(?) are useful because they give exact date of birth. Post in Boards > Topics > Ancestry.com > United Kingdom and Ireland Laryn Brown (Senior Product Manager, United Kingdom & Ireland) answers a lot of questions there. Martin |

why did they change it its useless now , ecuase you have to guess whether its birth marriage or death! So you can't order online from it because you can't tell what it is , also cannot find a contact address or email. Happy to take your money though! |

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but you can still search for an individual event. You put in the NAME of your ancestor and at the BOTTOM of the RESULTS PAGE you will find ANOTHER BOX which will allow you to put in a further search for the event that you want -birth, marriage or death. You then only get what you want. Hope this helps - Pat |

I thought it was just me going mad! They've obviously caught the GC disease - if it works, change it. I think you can still search individual events, i.e. births etc, but that means having to do 3 searches where you had to do one. Why don't these people leave things alone that don't need tinkering with? |
