Maybe the old ways were the best. Not laughed as much in ages as I have reading this. Brilliant!

Hi Lyla, Theres one for the DT's First allay the paroxysm, calm & support the nervous system by giving brandy & other spirits. The redness of the face & pulsation of the arteries, heart etc; indicate detrimentation of the blood to the head. Equalize the circulation by bathing the feet & legs in ley-water, then apply mustard plasters to the feet & nape of the neck. Sounds a bit like the "hair of the dog" to me.....maybe the cabbage leaf under a hat might help......lol June x

Just read this one If you are choking on an ice cube, don't panic. Simply pour a cup of boiling water down your throat and presto! The blockage will be almost instantly removed. (Hope they were joking!) Aghhh Chrisitne

I wonder if Marion is still wearing her cabbages round Asda? I've got brandy, mustard and plasters but what on earth is ley-water? I just re-read the whole thread and noticed Janet 's cure - raw eggs and tobasco sauce - so at least I have a back up plan if I dont find any ley water.

If Dr Merry Montys remedies don't work you might find something helpful here.

Heres 2 that really work, For blocked sinuses: :Inhale steam of grated horseradish steeped in hot water.(horseradish can be chewed, but it blows your brains out,be warned) For 'hiccups': :A teaspoon of sugar with 5 or 6 drops of vinegar.BUT suck the vinegar through the sugar VERY SLOWLY,otherwise you will have a choking fit. (This remedy given to me 50 years ago by my Gran). Have never known it to fail, even on a friend who had hiccups for over 30 hours) (But I suppose there will always be a first time) Eunice

You can buy oil of cloves from Boots or any good chemist. It's only about £1.50 or so for a bottle. So there is no need to make your own. You have to be careful with it though as too much can burn the skin (especially in the mouth). It should NOT be used at all on babies or children. You can also 'dilute' it in olive or sunflower oil and use it on the skin to relieve neuralgia. I wouldn't use more than 2 drops per teaspoon of olive oil as it can be a powerful irritant to the skin.
