My tree's been on gencircles for at least 5 months, there's over 300 names, never had a match with any of them yet. Jan |

I've a gedcom file which was sent to me by someone else, I shouldn't be using all their details, and have also added some living downline, which would need deleting. Can I edit the info on it, without losing what is on there? |

Well, I uploaded my Gedcom, waited a couple of days, did a smart match and guess what! All completely irrelevant! Is there really a place called Sudbury, Middlesex, Massachusetts? I shall have to check. I always thought that Sudbury Middlesex was a hamlet to the west of Harrow! Well blow me, I checked and there is one in USA! Nick blooming anything wouldn't they! Hah Bumhug! |

You and me both Jonathan!! I added both my birth and adoptive trees to gencircles yesterday and thought that the odds on finding at least one match would be high. Apparently not! Oh well, there's always tomorrow! Mandy :) |

The file is exported as a gedcom file which can only be read by other Genealogy programs or which can be upoaded to other websites. You wont be able to read it unless you have some genealogy software. You can down load a free Genealogy program from here Its called PAF 5 - http(:)//www(.)familysearch(.)org/ - remove the brackets. Click on Downloads on the topline when you get to the site. Wayne Lawrence |

One of the problems on all the sites is that people up load multipl copies of the same file or their new file has a few small changes but they dont delete the earlier version. This then produces multiple names when you do a matching search. Wayne Lawrence |

Dwain No, of course it dosnt upset me. I should have worded it a bit better and I'm sorry. I just get all excited thinking wow lots of new names, and then when I click on them it's usualy you again. Honestly It is great that you have so many people, keep it up. Debbie |

No when you export a file you only export a copy of the file. If you are using this site as your only family tree program then it is a good idea to export a gedcom file to a folder on your PC as a back up file then if Genes Reunited ever have a problem then you have not lost all your work. Im glad you are all finding and using Gene Circle its a simple site to use and the pages are fast to load not like here. If you get a lot of smartmatching on Gene Circle then the pages will take some time to load. I'm on broadband and some were taking 20 mins or more with over 300 matches to a page. I have sent feedback to Genes Circle outlining the problem - If you encounter the same problem you might like to send feedback as well. Wayne Lawrence |
