Thanks Mike, Just a shot in the dark but any ideas why an elastic web weaver might have gone to USA 1890's, certainly his wife gave birth there and they are back 1901? Also why would he have India above his profession? I'm asking for a lot are'nt I !!! Elaine Ok one more, on an uncle's birth cert in col 1 after writting an address he's put R.D. does that mean anything

Greeting's Again...... Elaine. Sorry but been laughing my hat off here...lol :0)) Seeing that he made elastic web Maybe he forgot to let go that's why he behaved like a Yo -Yo back and forward to the States ? .......lol . :0)) No..... Seriously He may have been sent over there by his company to show um how it's done? The " India " relates to Indian Rubber Company or not the common rubber stuff R. D. = Rural District. MIKE.

Thanks Mike, I always ask questions even if they sound silly and I thought it was funny too!!! going on from there is there any way I can find them in the States before 1901. I did get my mum's birth cert as she was a twin born 1942, the baby was stillborn so would there be a record that time, nothing is on my mums cert. Rest assured will try and find some more anecdotes as I am off work this week and spending lots of time on the computer, think I should purchase some census discs as I am becoming addicted!!! Hello to all today Elaine

Greeting’s Again Elaine……. There are several members on this site who are in the states …e.g. “ Crista “ So try clicking on their names and send them a private message with FULL details of what you want. Or…. Do you have full membership to Ancestry ?…. Or….. I’m helping a Canadian friend from another site at the moment maybe they can help ? (1942 was a good year …lol ) Re time on cert ?... Usually they DO put the time when it’s a multi birth. But I’ve heard before that if one is still born then they don’t.. So I’m to get the “Sack” then if your purchasing census disks…? :0(( Must remember to stock up on my “ Prozac “ for this coming week-end then…..:0))) By the way I’ve had another thought on that “ R.D. “ Could it mean = Road ? ( someone forgot to put it on cert ) MIKE.

Hi Mike Wondered if you have any info re Great Bowden, Leics? I have found my GG grandmother Sarah Wigginton living there in the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census but can't find a date she died. Have also discovered her married daughter Mary Chamberlain living there in the same census. Would love to discover the date she died. Is it possible to find out if there are any Chamberlains still living in Great Bowden? I also wondered if there were any Hudsons Sarah's maiden name?

Hi Mike, Unfortunately not been near the computer till now, just thought it would be better to buy otherwise with all the info I want it would be like doing homework-T00 much to ask but your reply made me laugh. With regards to American stuff am in Ancestry but not sure how American census works or when they took theirs but only found the info late yesterday so will pursue tomorrow again. I think you must be right about the still birth, no time , no mention of it etc and it would seem it was not talked about either. Was supposed to meet up with my aunt and uncle Friday to get info but that is on hold till next week so hopefully will come back to you armed with so much info that you will wish I had bought everything I could!!! Mike - What a star you are. I've spent months trying to get beyond my great grandfather and his mother!! I discovered about a month ago my great grandfather, William Hudson in the workhouse at Stamford in 1851 age 9 and described as a pauper orphan. I presumed then that his mother was dead! I subscribed to Ancestry for 3 months at the end of Nov and when checking William's family in the 1891 census I discovered that one of his daughters was not with the family. I checked her name out and found her staying with Mary Chamberlain who was described as her aunt. Sarah Wigginton was also living with the family and described as mother to the head of the house - Mary a widow. Eventually I found a marriage for a Sarah Hudson - my GG grandmother and when the cert came it showed she had married Jonathan Wiggington in 1854. Both Sarah and Mary were born at Easton on the Hill as was my G grandfather, William. William and I think Mary also were illegitimate. Sorry to bore you with al the details but what you have found has given me plenty more to go on. Wonder if I could ask you another favour? Would you be able to find Sarah Hudson on the 1851 census? Also, could you look for William on the 1861 and 1871 census please? Most of William's children were born at Great Bowden but there is another son who I think was illegitimate who was born at Wansford. Will understand if you haven't the time to check all that. I'm very grateful for what you have already found. Best wishes Jenny

Thanks so much Mike Can't find my Sarah in the 1851 census - she would have been about 32 then but there is plenty of info there and hopefully I'll be able to tie in one or two relations. I can find no trace of her son William after he's in the workhouse in 1851 until the 1881 census when he turned up at Great Bowden, Leics married and with several children. I've got his marriage cert which took place in the Registry Office at Stamford in 1877. Thanks for all your hard work. I'm very grateful Jenny
