Hee Hee Hee!! Think i've sussed who "my" Henry was living with in 1841!! Think Thomas Henry had a sister Sarah - found this on the St Margaret's marriage index - slight discrepancy in the year - but that could be down to transcription.... http://www.geocities(.)com/Heartland/Pond/1598/bpage.html BUTLER SARAH, 1842, JOHN LANE, 2 My next mystery is to suss out if Thomas Edward the Chemist (born c. 1819, All Saints) fits into the picture - family lore says he doesn't, but I have a hunch he does..... could he be a nephew to Henry???????????????? Can't believe that in just a few short days, John Butler has gone from being just a name on a marriage cert, to having a whole family of his own!! Thanks to Mike for his input. |

Mike, Good to meet you tonight - Thanks so much for all your help. Had a good meeting tonight - will mail you in the morning - enough of burning the "Charnwood Candle" - the candle you can burn at both ends AND in the middle!!!!! Maggie P.S. Would you believe that the most common measurement was 42 inches - tho as to whether that was A's, B's, C's, D's - or even double D's I'm not sure!!!!!!!!!! Amazing the "fun" you can have at a Scout "Hut" on a Thursday night!! Look forward to next time - Feb 3rd if you're there!! Think that will be "dress up" and "model" night - don't miss out - be a scout (or in my case - a Girl Guide!!). P.P.S. If it's really a job in lost property that you're after, then the same chap that can answer the question about the shop can sign you up for the "Smiley Centre" - Charnwood's own Information Centre staffed partly by some very nice ladies - think you would have a good time there!! |

Hi Mike, Have just looked at St Margs reg and found a Charles Hurst marrying a Jemima Stretton, wondered if this ties in with the census you sent me or if you have any info on them. The surname Stretton has popped up again and could the spelling of Jamima on the 1861 census be wrong and should it read daughter in law rather than daughter (or was this a common mistake) Elaine PS married1858 |

Greeting's again Elaine...... One Wedding coming up........... St. Margaret's Church.. Entry No.80, DEC 25, 1858, after Banns CHARLES HURST, 19, bach. PAINTER, of GEORGE St, s. of WILLIAM HURST, PAINTER JEMIMA STRETTON, 23, sp. of GEORGE St, father's name & occupation not given Wits: WILLIAM HENRY STRETTON, LOUISA STRETTON. The Occupation fits that census return of 1861.... and wonder if that Louisa (witness) is the Lucy also on that return ?? ummmm.... Your other query re Daughter or Daughter - in - Law ? The enumerator could have misunderstood miss read or miss heard what was said. Or some one has mis transcribed it wrong So Yes it is a common mistake so don't disregard it yet.... Just had another look at that return has it spreads over two pages and I see that the last four entries are all females including Jemime. and in the column of "Relation to Head " all boxes have ...... " " following on from the first Daughter beneath the entry for Charles.. And so not wishing to let it be know they were living together had it read Daughter ..... MIKE. |

Greeting's Again Elaine.. I've add more since you 1st read my reply... The other Strettons belong to " Bev".. and I think they come from Croxton Kerrial in the north of the County... But remembered I did spot some Strettons in Aylestone on one of the Census .... MIKE. |

Adding more myself, got confused, have Eliza Stretton mentioned Ward/Warren wedding cert and a Charles Hurst marrying Jemima Stretton again connected with the Ward side of my family. Will look through old threads now looking at the original messages Thanks Elaine |
