I would love to join Ancestry but it's beyond my budget. I usually use one of the Ancestry Plus free links that get posted from time to time on the message boards and get in as many searches as I can before the link closes down. I know this is cheating and people say the cost is only just over a pound a week. I could afford the pound a week but not £70 all in one go. |

I joined ancestry in April this year and it cost me £73 for the year, but I think that it depends on the USA exchange rate. I think that it is well worth the money. They have just added the 1871 census for the whole of Yorkshire, which has added many more names to my family tree! Maggy |

It is well worth the money. 1891 is complete for the whole country; as is 1881. 1871 is partial and counties being added gradually. Brilliant to be given help, but far more satisfying to search and find for yourself. Happy hunting! :) Joy |

Just had notification from Ancestry that my sub comes up for renewal on 4th Jan, they have quoted me £49.95 (plus taxes if applicable). I was given the chance to cancel if I did not wish to renew, but I would not dream of it, far too useful. Happy Christmas All, Yvonne |

Hi Rhonda, My husband kindly bought me the subscription for a crimbo prezzie, it cost about £70. In my opinion it is fantastic value for money. I only restarted my research about 8 weeks ago and I received the subscription about 2 weeks ago and have found so much information. One such example is that last friday I received a marriage certificate for my Grt Grt Grandparents and that evening using ancestry I found two more generations dating back to a marriage in 1811. Another good thing about having the subscription is that you can also 'pay it forward' for others by helping them when they are stuck, as someone kindly did for me when I was just beginning. I couldn't trace family on the 1901 census, I came to the tips board for advice and Judith found them for me. On the Sunday I visited my best friend who was just starting, and managed go back to the 1830's for her. To be able to use this site for a year without having to pay out each time is brilliant. If you are still unsure, try the 14 day trial, or pay £6 for a week, because if you then decide to subscribe within that week they will take that £6 off the full fee. In the mean time if you would like me to do any look-ups for you, just give me the info and I'd be happy to oblige. Merry Crimbo Lozie :-) |

John, Good idea. The dollar's so weak right now that $99.95 is 52 pounds. Not sure if there's tax on top of that and check how you contact them when you need to cancel. Crista |

Check first whether it's got what you want, by using the 14 day free trial. For me, it's brilliant, been worth every penny. Have found loads of info for myself, helped a few others along the way, and nice to be able to print off the actual census images to keep. Mandy :) |

It's not worth it for me (and others I presume) until the Yorkshire census for 1901 is added. |

Hi, I think it's well worth the money - and there will be more census records going on next year. Gwynne |

Hi, if you go to their site you can read up on the cost. I think I paid about £70 for a years sub - very good value in my opinion. www.ancestry(.)co.uk Of course, remove the brackets round the full stop when you enter it in your address bar. |
