Pauline - the British directory is only for the year 1791 and the Norhumberland directory does not cover Cumberland so I don't think these will help you. Sorry I meant to say this in my earlier message - just expecting telepathy to kick in! |

Hi again Karen Thanks for your reply and time - I think I may have misled you on re-reading my message its jumbled to me let alone you. I was asking if John Mitchell (Butcher) Rickergate Carlisle would be in the Universal Directory and Arthur Watson Head Teacher at Dalston Parish in Cumberland. Regards Pauline |

Pauline - Unfortunately I can't find either Arthur Watson's or John Mitchell on 1881. I did find an Arthur Watson on a Navy ship with no age or birth place which was on the Cumberland Census CD. There were no John Mitchells in Carlise, could he be somewhere else and if so do you have an age and/or family? Sorry not to be of more help. Karen |

Cheryl - on the 1791 directory I found the following in Exeter - "Mayor, Recorder, Aldermen and Common Council" Roger Rowe - East Ward "Traders" Roger Rowe, Linen Draper, High Street Mary Rowe, Linen Draper, North Street Jos Rowe, Builder, Butcher-Row I take it you have already found the family on 1881, if not let me know. Hope this helps. Karen |

Alice - On the 1791 trade directory Woodbridge is listed (hooray!) - however there are no Adams' listed. There are two shoemakers - William Alexander & Jonathan Waspe, maybe Joseph trained with one of them. I looked for Albert Newport on 1881. Nothing comes up for him born Berks 1849'ish. Do you have wife or children to search on? on the off chance he was in his spaceship alone and they stayed at home?! Sorry not to be of help. Karen |

Hi there Karen Don't know how your directory can be searched but I am looking for the fatrher of a rellie who was born in 1796 somewhere in Suffolk (near woodbridge is my Guess) My man Joseph Adams grew up to be a Boot and shoe maker. i am hoping he learned his trade from dad. if this is too difficult to search for don't worry! My other is a missing person on the 1881. i am looking for Albert Newport born in loncot in Berkshire in 1849. In 1891 and 1901 he was in Norfolk. First as a groom and then as a publican. in 1881 he was in a spaceship..... Maybe you could find him on your discs ? Thanks for your help Alice |

Hi Karen Cannot find a rellie on the 1881 census and he was definately alive and kicking. ARTHUR WATSON born Cumberland 1824 - on the 1891 census found him in a workhouse in Barrow Lancs. Would you have a JOHN MITCHELL Butcher Carlisle or ARTHUR WATSON (Missing 1881 Arthur's father) Head Teacher Dalston Cumberland 1820's - in trade directory. Many many thanks pauline |

Hi Karen, Would you mind checking your 1791 directory to see whether there are any Burtons, probably carpenters, in the King's Lynn area of Norfolk? If that would mean too much trawling don't worry, it's a bit of a long shot on my part. Thanks very much. Cherie |

Audrey - the trade directory is just for 1791 so too early for your guy. I guess you already have found him on 1881. I couldn't see him on 1851 census. sorry I can't be of more help - Karen |

Hi Karen Thanks for looking - I don't know if William is related or not as all I have is on John and Margaret's daughter Barbara's birth OPR in 1830 saying he was a pitman - I presume that means a miner but don't know. Thanks again |

Karen, would be grateful if you would look for John Welch born 1831 in Hackney. In 1881 John was a shoemaker or a boot maker married to Margaret. TIA Audrey |

Chole - I haven't found your guy. Managed to work my way to the list of people in London but he's not there. However if you wanted stamp duty rates, names of land soldiers etc etc I could help! this disc is a mine of information if only I had the brain power to understand it better - lol |

That's odd! I replied to you last night Karen but my reply doesn't seem to be here. Spooky! lol I was just saying that unfortunately my lot came from small villages in the East Riding. My request for the Greenleys was a bit of a long shot in the hope of trying to break down my brick wall. Looks like it doesn't want to be broken down! Thanks for looking though Jeanette x |
