If you can't find somebody on the 1871 census on ancestry, try British Origins. Check whether they have the county that you want before you subscribe though! Also, you can do a free search on name to see if there is anybody with that name on their 1871 census before subscribing. I was looking and looking for my g-g-g-g-uncle on ancestry and getting nowhere, typed in his name to British Origins as soon as I found out they had added London Surrey, and there he was! I still don't know why he can't be found on ancestry. |
