Have had a most enjoyable evening at Countesthorpe village hall. They have formed a new heritage group in the village and tonight they had a meeting to show us a few films. Two were in Leicester, one was a shoe factory on Gateway st (can't remember the name i think it started with a P) having a day out in London in the 1950s and the other was about the day of a policeman in Leicester but showed loads of the town centre. The other two films were of Countesthorpe in the 1950s, then in 1970-72 and 77 the jubilee year. They were good as they showed loads of people and also showed alot around the village. The most exciting thing was on the 1977 one i saw myself!!!!! There was short piece of film of a service held on the paddock and there was i age 3 playing a tambourine!!!! The man from the Leicester film archives said the films were the best for a village he had seen in Leicestershire Paula

Back in 1904. it stood on the corner of Lower Hill Street and Bedford Street...on the right hand side looking from Charles Street..... I'll keep my eyes peeled for any old pictures.... one never knows MIKE.

Hi Sheila Mike would probably be able to explain this better than me but here goes. Bedford street, if you go To Belgrave Gate and turn into Jubilee road you come to Bedford street. Or if you Know where Kingstons shop is its just behind there. Beverly

Not so much who as what - in this case the Tramway Inn, 7 Bedford Street. A rough idea of whereabouts that was would be great - but also is there a picture archive in Leicester? Still looking for my lost boys - see earlier post. Not in the workhouse either! Sheila

Paula... I'm not sure if it's this weekend you were to have a look at Saffron lane cemetery ???? Did you know that Stonesby Avenue is CLOSED from the roundabout at Saffron Lane to Windley Road for resurfacing So there might not be access to the cemetery ?.... MIKE.

Greeting's ALL...... On behalf of Sheila I've been asked to post this for her in case it rings bells for anyone else..... Ey up Mike mi duck You are a wonderful man! However where did they go? Joseph lived until 1936 and William until 1945 and both as far as I am aware lived and died in Leicester.William got married to Emma Bradbury in the first quarter of 1892 (St Mark's Belgrave?), Joseph and Clara got married in 1894. All I can assume is that the children got split up when Mum was between marriages. I've tried looking under Riley but that's a dead loss too. Guess I need to know which order the husbands came in. I thought Riley was No 3, but who was No 2? ' I am not a number I am free woman !!!! ' (Copyright The Prisoner ) ...lol :0))) No I'm not - I'm chained to my ancestors! Thanks again Sheila

Is it possible to find Buckminster on your lists Mike? If you can could you find William B Wormell who was born there around 1840. I have him on the 1871 census at Ramsgill on the yorkshire moors he was a schoolmaster there. It would be so great to find his birth registered and see who his parents were. Thankyou. Teresa

Mike Do you know how to find graves in Welford Road once you have a location from the index. I saw the map near the entrance breaking the areas into different letters but its just such a big place that i find it totally confusing. None of the graves themselves seem to be numbered Paula

CERTIFICATES HAVE ARRIVED Hi all Need to do some work now, I have never looked at Parish records or old newspapers. My family are mainly in the St Margarets Parish so what do I do about looking them up and where do I go?. Have a death cert for 1897 which shows it was a coroner's inquest and assume this would be in an old newspaper, where in Leicester do I go for that? Thank you Elaine

Looking for Sarah Ann Goadby (b1868) and her brothers William (b1871) and Joseph (b1873) I have Sarah Ann on the 1871 census with her parents Joseph and Ann (Bodycote) in Willow(?) Street and then on the 1881 Census lodging with relatives in Denmark Street. I have William and Joseph on the 1901 but am missing all three children for 1881 and 1891 and Sarah Ann on the 1901 under her married name of Moyer. I know that their father died in 1877 and their mother married twice more, including a marriage to a Mr Riley. Does this mean anything to anyone? Anyone got any ideas? Sheila
