Saffron Hill cemetary is not as huge as Welford Rd or Gilroes but is still a fair size. Do you have any idea where the grave in. As you go in the gate there is a road with the chapel in front and graves to the left and right. If you could let me know if it is on the left or right that would narrow down quite abit Paula

Thanks Paula Am looking for Albert Victor Ward dob 5/01/1872. As you go in through the main gate the plot will be to the left and past the office/house building. My nan is buried in the first block which the diagram from the council say is Con C, almost opposite the building I mentioned is. My uncle says it's further a long from there and he said there were old headstones that had fallen down (he has not been for a while though). There is'nt a headstone but there is a small plant 'pot' which I think is black which has his name on it and my great aunt Nora Paul is buried there too but I am not sure if her name is on it. She also has a stillborn baby buried there. Hope this bit of info helps and I much appreciate the offer Elaine

Hi Paula I think it must be the caretakers building, I went about a year ago myself so I can only describe it as walking paralell to this building by the entrance. The proper ref is con c 158 and am relying on what my uncle says about it being further on. I appreciate your time but don't spend hours looking, I offered to do this for someone in Australia a while ago and it was a nightmare and I ended going a couple of times and e-mailed her for more info. Unfortunately she never sent a further reply (or a thank you) so I know how long it can take!!! JUST LIKE TO SAY A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPS Elaine

Mike Wonder if you have the answer, oh wise and revered one? I have the GRO reference for my husband's grandparents' marriage Dec Q 1926 7a 279. I've spent a couple of hours today trawling through parish registers but I can't find their marriage anywhere. I expected to find them in Whitwick and ended up searching in a wide circle and still nothing! Any suggestions as to where to look next? Purchasing the cert. is not currently an option. Thanks Jan

Three in the name of Ward though one a 'JP' But plenty of unmarked graves..... Contacts for the Church :- Rector :- Cannon G.T. Willet. Markfield Rectery. 3A The Nook Markfield. Leicestershire. LE 67 9 WE. or Secretary :- Mrs S. Gammon. 18 The Green. Markfield. Leicestershire. LE 67 9 WD. It's a lovely old Church.. (Have pic's if you want them ) But there is a plaque to say that the Village of Copt Oak was due West from where it is today .....Ummm Also there was no where I could find out the Name of the Church...... He told me that when he was a Church Steward There was a full survey of the graves within the Graveyard and the list was passed onto the Vicar...... So best start writing I think... He also said that ' Warner ' was a old Markfield family name. MIKE.
