Elaine>> My grandad is buried at Saffron Hill so will keep an eye out next time i go, do you know year of death/ birth? Saffron Hill cemetary is not as huge as Welford Rd or Gilroes but is still a fair size. Do you have any idea where the grave in. As you go in the gate there is a road with the chapel in front and graves to the left and right. If you could let me know if it is on the left or right that would narrow down quite abit Paula |

Thanks Paula Am looking for Albert Victor Ward dob 5/01/1872. As you go in through the main gate the plot will be to the left and past the office/house building. My nan is buried in the first block which the diagram from the council say is Con C, almost opposite the building I mentioned is. My uncle says it's further a long from there and he said there were old headstones that had fallen down (he has not been for a while though). There is'nt a headstone but there is a small plant 'pot' which I think is black which has his name on it and my great aunt Nora Paul is buried there too but I am not sure if her name is on it. She also has a stillborn baby buried there. Hope this bit of info helps and I much appreciate the offer Elaine |

Elaine>> When you say past the building do you mean past the caretakers house that is at the gate rather than past the chapel as i thought the graves that were past the chapel were all modern It won't be for a couple of weeks i'm afraid as i'm off visiting this weekend Paula |

Hi Paula I think it must be the caretakers building, I went about a year ago myself so I can only describe it as walking paralell to this building by the entrance. The proper ref is con c 158 and am relying on what my uncle says about it being further on. I appreciate your time but don't spend hours looking, I offered to do this for someone in Australia a while ago and it was a nightmare and I ended going a couple of times and e-mailed her for more info. Unfortunately she never sent a further reply (or a thank you) so I know how long it can take!!! JUST LIKE TO SAY A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPS Elaine |

Hi Bev Thought you might be interested about a listing on www.hobsonsvoice(.)co(.)uk found Peter on this site as she is trying to list boatpeople 1861 in Leicester, my William is there with the wrong surname . You need to go into the geneology section on the left hand side of her main page. Elaine |

Mike Wonder if you have the answer, oh wise and revered one? I have the GRO reference for my husband's grandparents' marriage Dec Q 1926 7a 279. I've spent a couple of hours today trawling through parish registers but I can't find their marriage anywhere. I expected to find them in Whitwick and ended up searching in a wide circle and still nothing! Any suggestions as to where to look next? Purchasing the cert. is not currently an option. Thanks Jan |

Thanks Mike - I did think it might not 'in date'! I appreciate your efforts anyway. Thanks for the info re Ashby churches - I've already looked at St Helen's and Holy Trinity. I'll have to see if any of the family know more! Unfortunately as you see below Ashby reg district covered quite an area - I have looked at parish registers (or at least those at the library) for the most likely ones near Coalville/ Whitwick. Ashby-de-la-Zouch Created 1st July 1837. Mainly in Leicestershire, but included parts of Derbyshire. Sub-districts : Ashby-de-la-Zouch; Hartshorn; Measham; Whitwick. GRO volumes : XV (1837-51); 7a (1852-1930). Appleby Magna North (from 1897), Appleby Magna South, Ashby de la Zouch, Ashby Woulds, Bardon (from 1862), Blackfordby, Chilcote (from 1895), Coalville, Coleorton, Donisthorpe (from 1897), Heather, Hugglescote and Donington, Measham (from 1897), Nether Seal (1837-97), Normanton le Heath, Oakthorpe (from 1897), Osgathorpe, Over Seal (1837-97), Packington, Ravenstone, Snarestone, Snibston (from 1884), Staunton Harold, Stretton en le Field (from 1897), Swannington, Swepstone, Thringstone, Whitwick, Willesley (from 1897), Worthington. Registers now divided between Leicestershire and Derby districts. |

*** FOR THE ATTENTION OF GERALDINE *** Greeting's Again...... I spoke to a Old Scout Friend this afternoon Who was born in and is still living in Copt Oak... He told me that when he was a Church Steward There was a full survey of the graves within the Graveyard and the list was passed onto the Vicar...... So best start writing I think... He also said that ' Warner ' was a old Markfield family name. MIKE. |
