Peter, Not sure about that - from the info I have gathered from CC sites, his parents parted around 1890 shortly after he was born. His father went to the States - died in London 9 May 1901 aged 37.............. Jess So far the mothers age has not altered from 1861 - 1881 - 31,41,51 - that would mean a jump of 21 yrs in her age by 1891..........so I cant be certain - if I knew anything for sure, I certainly would have solved the mystery by now LOL........... |

Hi Julie Yes I did - many thanks :O) I was thinking along the lines of the marriage record for Charles Snr & Hannah which will give their fathers names & profession - I will know for sure from that if it's my man LOL. |

So the Charles age 20 born Newington, by 1891 married, you don't think is him? Given that the woman we believe to be his mother Charlote's age is out ouldn't his be too? What did the famous CC do before he was famous - work for his B-in -law selling boots? Jess |

Anne Did you receive my email over the weekend with birth/death dates for Charlie Chaplins parents. I think the only way to prove anything is to order Charles Chaplin Snr birth cert. Julie |

Peter, Thanks - I do have about as much info as there is online about Charles Chaplin Snr............... My dilema is that my CHARLES was 16yrs old on 1881, still single with parents, so I am having trouble pin pointing him in 1891. |

***UPDATE*** 20/2/05 Many thanks firstly to a couple of ladies who have emailed me with info that they have taken the trouble to look for. I admit to having been deliberately vague in my original message above so as not to make too much fuss....reason?? the man I am trying to pursue is a CHARLES CHAPLIN. My man was born same time and area as the father of Charlie Chaplin, which is what I am actually trying to prove or disprove, but with several in London on the 1891 of similar age, and not knowing who he may have married, I have reached a bit of a dead end. It seems to me now that the only option to enable me to move forward, will be to confirm the details of the marriage of Charlie's parents, which should confirm who his paternal grandfather was - ie. was he my Jospeh Chaplin??? |

I would be interested to hear from anyone researching this name during 1800s in the Newington area of London. I am attempting to research currently, the family of JOSEPH (or John) and CHARLOTTE CHAPLIN, whom I have on the 1861, 1871 and 1881 - but am having difficulty following forward to 1891 with their son. If you have any info please can you contact me either via this thread or direct by email? Thanks. |
