What a great idea......My g/g/uncle ran a Pub called the Yachtsmans Arms, in Brightlinsea, which I believe is in Essex (not too sure about that) He was born in 1857 and his name was John Sawyer, don't know when he died sadly. He was born in a place called Bures in Suffolk or Essex ....Thanks for suggesting this list...Wonderful...Best Wishes Maureen

Hi: Great question, I have been trying to get more info. on my Great Grandfathers Pub. It was called THE EXCHANGE TAVERN. My G. Grandfather was Wm. Hogg. His wife was Janet Hogg, (nee Young) . I have a picture of it dated C 1905. My Grandmother is also in it, her name was Euphemia Hogg. It was in Dalkeith, Scotland, now gone. Anybody know anything about it? Thanks Shiela

My great great grandparents were licencee of Fox and Hen Pub, Bascote Heath, Warwickshire from 1870's until after 1901.

My great great grandparents ran the Blue Anchor Inn, Buckley Flintshire 186? -187? My great grandparents, (one their daughter) ran the small village pub 'The Tavern' in Alltami Mold Flintshire (1881 census). Both are still open. Joan

Mine is something Arms in Luckett, Stoke Climsland, Cornwall. John Tucker 1891. I couldn't quite make the first name of the pub out on the census. Fern.

My ancestors Ann and Joel Hibberd ran the Bridge Inn West Lavington Wiltshire in the mid 1800'2. I also have an Alice and George Hawkins who ran the White Horse Shades Hotel in Reigate in 1901.

Queen Inn and Queens Head, Ormskirk during late 1800's to early 1900's by the Walmsley family. Anne.

The Radnor Inn, Folkestone. At the time - mid 1800s - it was a very rough pub/hotel right near the harbour and had a fearsome reputation. One night the constabulary went in to make an arrest but were thrown out and a huge fight ensued. My ancestor landlord (Charles HILL) had the distinction of having the Riot Act read outside the pub! One of the upstairs rooms had wooden posts throughout the room with hooks in. The seamen used to hook their belts over the hooks and sleep, leaning against the posts. Hence the term 'public leaning post'. There's a local shop which still has them intact, but they didn't know what they were used for! Regards Mary
