No ancestors with pub connections - so far, but my brother-in-law ran the Black Horse in North Street, Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire in the late 1960s/early 1970s. It was a C16th (I think) coaching inn with a thatched roof. Does anyone know if it's still there? Sue xx |

My great grandparents turned their house into a pub - The Dying Gladiator in Bigby Street, Brigg, Lincs. My GG grandfather carved a statue to sit above the door. It is reputed to be the only pub with that name in the British Isles. My cousin has a minature of the same statue. Another relation's parents had the Rose and Crown in Wrawby Street, Brigg. Jenny |

My Gx6 Grandfather Henry Floyd - nearly 7 ft tall and weighing in at 42 stone (a foreman bricklayer) built a pub in Romsey Hants called 'THE BRICKLAYERS ARMS' . He also had his portrait on the wall (we believe the portrait is now in Canada) The pub is now a private house called 'The Bricklayers' Another Gx6 grandfather, John Buckingham, kept 'THE WHITE HORSE' in Orford, Suffolk. My G G Uncle Edward Burt, fell down the stairs and died (aged 77 and we presume happy) at 'THE FREEMANTLE ARMS' in Southampton, in the 1950's maggie |
