PUB CONNECTION IN THE FAMILY ?? - List your Pub he

My great grandparents turned their house into a pub - The Dying Gladiator in Bigby Street, Brigg, Lincs. My GG grandfather carved a statue to sit above the door. It is reputed to be the only pub with that name in the British Isles. My cousin has a minature of the same statue. Another relation's parents had the Rose and Crown in Wrawby Street, Brigg. Jenny |

As far as I am aware I have no Pub connections,however while tracing family on the Blackburn,Lanc.1871 Census came upon the following which may be of use to someone. NAGS HEAD INN, 44 Northgate,St.Mary,Blackburn William Pilkington Head 43yrs Licensed Victualler ? Marion Pilkington Wife 36yrs William Pilkington Son 18yrs ?Painters Apprentice John Pilkington Son 2yrs Sorry my copy did not cover the Birthplaces. Hope this is of some help Judy |

My grandfather was mine host at the'' Roebuck Hotel'' which was in Standishgate, Wigan around 1911.His name was Charles Seeling and he also played for Wigan RFC. |

No ancestors with pub connections - so far, but my brother-in-law ran the Black Horse in North Street, Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire in the late 1960s/early 1970s. It was a C16th (I think) coaching inn with a thatched roof. Does anyone know if it's still there? Sue xx |

Hi have a great great uncle Edward Bird from Norfolk who ran either 'The Angel' in islington or ' Duke of Clarence' In the angel islington. That was abou 1900. |

The CROSS KEYS INN in the centre of Knutsford was run by my great Grandfather Thomas Warburton unitl about 1909. The pub is still there now. Lyndsay |

Had a rellie who ran a pub in Oving, Nr Chichester Sussex. family cannot remember the name though. Apparently he was a cooper who was then given the pub to run. His name was William Hutchins. If anyone can help with possible names of pubs in this area it might help jog memories. We think the pub is still there. |

My ggg grandad George Tate was the victualler/coal merchant of the Canal Tavern in Whitley, North Yorkshire, in 1838. Unfortunately the pub is not there now, so I can't go to raise a glass to him. I also think that my gggg grandad Adam Allinson was the landlord of the White Horse in Ledston, in the early 1800s, but need to dig a little futher yet. This pub is still there. Maggy |

My Great, Great Uncle's Pub THE HORSE AND JOCKEY, High St, Waddington, Lincoln He was 'William Butler Martin Howden' and it's a Lovely looking building, has a picture of it on Internet (google the name) must visit one day and treat Christine who found out about it for me to a Pub lunch, Thanks Chris. Plus Hubbies third Cousin & Husband owned and run :- THE VICTORIA TAVERN, East Cowes, Isle Of Wight, as on 1891 and 1901 Census's, they were Elvira (Dredge) and Thomas Hunsell from Wiltshire. Rose & Crown Pub in Upwood, Hunts. My gt.gt.grandfather ran it for years in 1800's. Now a private house but still got original windows & doors. |

Two more that I have found are SIMS INN at 34 Sluice Row, Wisbech, and RUTLAND ARMS INN Lynn Road, Wisbech. Both run by HARRY JAMES and his wife CLARISSA JAMES nee MUMBY. |

ggggrandfather George Stribling a blacksmith took over The Lion Inn, Leavenheath Suffolk in 1880s. It was passed down 4 generations to about 1970. Been told that the family was connected to the Hare & Hounds Inn, Leavenheath but not found it yet. Charles Stribling, George's brother ran The Compasses in Boxford, Suffolk |
