It depends on how much researching you are doing in England and Wales. I think Ancestry is well worth the subscription. You can subscribe for three months or a year, and I think you can also now buy vouchers. I have an annual subscription which works out at little more than £1 a week, and you can use the site all day every day for that. Got census's for 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901 (although not all complete), plus some civil registrations up to about 1910, and lots more. Kath. x |

That is really kind. I'm looking for as much detail as poss for :- Charles Thomas Clark - born 1897 in Southampton. So anything would be great and it would seem that something was found, but I got to the stage where I had to pay. Annie |

You have to be carefull if you pay by credit card because they will continue to take payments without telling you. The best thing to do if you want short term membership is to alter your credit card details so this can't happen. George |

Hi Just had a look and I can't see one born in Southhampton on 1901 Census. What did you see when you looked? Cheryl |

Ann, you have FT2005 too, dont you? You could do the trial sub. If you are going to do a lot of research it would be well worth having this facility available 24/7. |

I got the FTM2005, with it I got 30 day's free trial. Cant find anything on it (Scotland) I think I will cancel now, getting worried 'again' about credit card. somebody did say on an earlier thread, the free disc's etc were no good. Maybe I am not using it correctly. Cheers Marion |

Ann, we found all the details from 1901 back for Charles the other night. I dont think it will be easy to trace him after that date as there will be no census records available. You could try and see if he married. |

Yes, Thank you I got all your information and working through it. But my question was - should I subscribe to ancestory - because I want to look up brothers and sisters? I'm going to go back to the string you helped me with the other day because I have a question for you - and hope you can help me understand the relationship. Won't do it on this string though. Annie, I had my husband get me a year's subscription for Christmas and I've found out so much. I discovered names spelt so many differrent ways - some were transciption errors (Warner became Wormer!) and some were just how the census enumerator heard the name. Imagine the fun I had with Kerwolden! Just being able to play with the names and make wildcard entries without worrying about the cost was great. Certainly well worth it - and I inderstand 1861 Census is coming in May (although there is a limited area on 1837online at present) Maggie |

No, there are vouchers for the 1901 government census online but ancestry no. I understand you can pay by check - look at the terms and conditions for details. |
