Lyla I have messaged you, think I have had dealings with the same person. Lou Yes, I think they do. A few weeks ago Louise in IOW was doing look ups on the NBI as well as me. When I told someone that the info they wanted wasnt there they asked Louise later. I emailed them and their reaction was that she had stated she had a 'new thread', so they took that as new info. Durrrrrr as Homer Simpson would say!! Margaret |

Lyla Just seen your reply to him. Good on ya!! Perhaps we should all stand firm and say when our time has been wasted when we see the same posts again and again by the same people. There is no excuse for being ignorant. Margaret |

Hi All, I would just like to say that before you start disparaging someone by name on this thread you give people them a chance to respond. If you view my thread I have explained my actions. I have recieved a huge amount of help from many kind people on this site and am always greatful for it. I also believe I have thanked everyone for thier help, but I am only human and can make mistakes or miss things out. You know I have read this thread throughout the day and thought it started off being very constructive for all of you that do look ups for us. I never thought my name would appear on it! I think maybe it has resulted in people becoming too quick to accuse. Just a thought, Nigel |

Nigel Apologies, but it did look like that to Lyla and I know you have apologised to her. The trouble is, the sort of thing that we thought you were guilty of does happen an awful lot. Your name should not have been mentioned and I'm sure that was an oversight. Margaret |

Hi Margaret, Thanks for the apology. I just read what you said about your and Louise's Burial Index look up threads and I may owe you an apology. I believe I was caught out by you having version 2 and her having version one. I realise now that they are probably the same and can only put my double request down to desperation at trying to find the burial. I must also admit to deleting my requests and responses to peoples lookup threads. I try to leave enough time for you to read my thanks but of course I don't know how long to leave before doing this. I do this as I thought it would help shorten your threads but also as I didn't want to leave the details of my ancestors up on the thread for all to view indefinatley. So thanks and sorry, Nigel |

Nigel That is sorted then. It only takes one misunderstanding to turn into a full scale row. Glad this has been nipped in the bud. Actually it wasnt you I was refering to in the NBI comment. It was a male yes, but I remember his first name began with an S. Margaret |

Well I went to bed reasonably early and am back to see you are all still at it! Maybe the time has come to point out to people that the message has already been answered. I could not believe my eyes yesterday when someone posted an Irish question that I had responded to a little while ago but in case she had forgotten I quietly pointed out that many people had answered the same questions on Irish History over the last year and that if she keyed in Ireland/Irish into the Message box at the top that about 400 answers would appear. I found that my answer had been totally ignored and an utterly unbelievable statement had been made by this person. Have to say that at that point I left a very dry remark. I have to admit that I am gradually giving up on helping people on this site. Again those that should be reading this board are not listening! Jaqui, good luck in your research and how wonderful for you to have connected with your family. Janet |

I don't understand why GR can't put some headings up above all message boards saying eg census births, marriages & deaths electoral rolls etc which people could click as a link to the relevant bit of the GR genealogical resources pages. Then it could say - if you still need help, please post request on {whichever board} with XYZ in your title, or whatever. nell |

And what p****s me off is when a person asks for look ups...gets them for free...then changes names to get more....just happened to me and I am B****y angry. Anne ...GRrrrrrrrr!!! |

Unknown | Report | 13 Mar 2005 11:45 |
You can't possibly be angry with a name like Honey Rum, which sounds sweet and go with the flow. But I do know what you mean. I get rather annoyed when people put up a query, which is replied to, and instead of reading and responding to the reply, or even acknowledging it, they put up more queries! ggrrrr. anyway the sun is shining so I am not going to be moany or cross. I am going to get the vacuum cleaner out and give the house a good going over with The Stranglers on fullblast on my CD player. Then I am going to carry on sorting out my notes and files. nell |
