I've been thinking of getting this software for a few months now. I always thought it tended to retail at about £30+ at most places. I've just seen it on the PC World site though for £19.99. I think I'll have to pay them a visit at the weekend! |

Still cheap though, I paid nearly £40 just before Christmas from Amazon. |

I've had a look at this and it's a very good price indeed. It's 2005 the latest version and it's produced under license in the U.K. by G.S.P. Somebody said maybe a new versions coming out, not so. FTM usually brings out new versions every August. Regards Ron www(.)genealogyprinters(.)com |

Thanks for the replies :) I did notice the £3.99 p&p, but it's still cheap. I wondered if the £19.99 only applied on the internet and not the store. So I just called my local one, and it is still £19.99! They're open until 8pm so I'm going to get one tonight - yipee!! |

You're welcome Gill. Well I've just got back from PC World. When I got there, I discovered that the FTM 2005 deluxe had a price label of £39.99. I was close to flipping as the man on the phone said the price definitely applied in store as well. I kept thinking, what a waste of petrol etc etc Anyway, I went to the till to query the price and it rang through as £19.99!!!!! So really, this was just to warn anybody that should you decide to get one, don't walk out of the store until you've checked the price first. Also, I asked the till man why it wasn't priced up correctly as it would boost sales figures etc but he said it was because the prices change constantly. So, if this is the software you're thinking of getting, go and get it now whilst it's a bargain! Best Regards Helen |

As I mentioned on another thread genealogy is offering the FT2005 plus CD for only 29 dollars, what a bargain. Yes, its worth getting, probably even better right at beginning as you can get things nicely in order from the start. |

Yes Heather. Genealogy.com are offering it for sale at $29.99 about £14 but what they don't tell you is that it will cost at least the same again in shipping charges. After all you will be buying from the U.S.A. Not such a bargain then. P.C. World are the cheapest at the moment according to their website but if you visit the store you may have to argue about the price at the checkout. Regards Ron www(.)genealogyprinters(.)com |

It's definitely £19.99 in Pc World despite what it says on the box ! Is it me or is the free 3 month trial to ancestry.com a waste of time ? I signed up for the trial and most areas remain locked to me without paying a wholelot more money. Please tell me if i am wrong ? Graeme |

> is it worth getting at this stage You should definitely get some sofware, as it will guide you in terms of the sort of information you should be seeking/recording, as well as in keeping it organised. FTM is a popular program so there is a lot of casual support for it available from other users, which in iteself makes it a good choice. As far as whether there are better choices, it really depends on what you specifically want to do, which is often not clear when you are first starting out. FTM can export GEDCOM files 5.5, so even if you decided to change to some other genealogical software later, you can take your records forward into any other softaware that supports GEDCOM 5.5 import (which most can). You DO NOT need any of the fancy packages with extra CDs etc, just the basic FTM 2005 package will be fine to get going. Of course if you can get one of the packages with extra CDs at the same sort of price as the basic version in your area, then that's good too! I'm using FTM 2005 (and earlier had been using Version 6) and its been great for my needs. Cheers, Bill |

I think the 3 month trial is for ancestry one world tree. When I had a starter version I got the standard 14 day free trial with Ancestry itself. I had access to all the UK collection. I don't think the One world tree itself is worth having from what i have seen |
