Greeting's Again Robert .... In answer to your quest to find address ...... I think it's best if you can pick up a copy of the 1841. Census for Matlock or Derbyshire on disk Have you tried Stepping Stones Ltd. ? They do Census Disks. Or the Derbyshire Family History Society. But having said that the 1841. census is very basic and with a bit of luck the enumerator has put the Street / Road name but NO house No's in the left hand column but don't hold your breath.... Hi Mike. Different family request. Long lost relative in Vancouver been in touch. Need to verify a name spelling. My relation JAMES DAWES born 1853 in Swadlincote married SARAH MILLWARD OR MILLARD who was from Leicestershire. They married 31.10.1876 so my Canadian cousin says. Could you check and give me any details you can about Sarah Millward or Millard. I can't trace a marriage in Derbyshire. Thanks Margaret. Ps makes a change from searching for EDWARD Heawood. |

Greeting's & Welcome Alice..... Now there are two Appleby's .... Appleby Magna. and Appleby Parva.... But the Parva Village although in Leicestershire came under South Derbyshire on early Census... Due to the early dates given it would mean that your Anne Smith would be approx 31. and so could well be married and have changed her surname...... Plus compulsory recording of births didn't become Law it 1837...so any records would be under a 'Christening' and these would be in the Parish Records So to find these Christening records you will have to trawl through the Parish Records on fiches at the Records Office at Wigston or your might be able to order them through a Latter Day Saints Family History Centre at a cost of £2.70.p. per fiches but there will be a five day working day notice required but they are held for you for 28 days.... But I've had a look on the 1841. census returns images for Appleby Magna The following are the Smith's in Appleby Magna 1841. :- HO 107/600/01/ Page 11. ' Over Street.' Ann Smith. 85. Pauper Widow. born within the County. also on the same page Eliza Smith. 11. born within the County. Farm Servant to William Laband. 60. Farmer. Page 10. 'Over Street.' George Smith. 18. NOT born within the County. Farm servant to James Wyatt's 76. Farmer. Page. 6. 'Over Town Street.' Hannah Smith. 17. born within the County. Female servant to James Arnold. 40. Farmer. © Crown Copyright National Archives. Marriages found within a few miles radius of Appleby.:- Anne Smith. ~ Thomas Wetton. Nether seal. 1832. By Banns. Anne Smith. ~ George Cooper. Hello Mike, Thank you for your reply. I think she was Appleby magna. Last night I found an ann on IGI born 1808, father william Mother Mary. Obviously I was dozy and desperate last night I know she married in 1830's Birmingham ! (it was past 12!) Any sign of William and Mary? I am now nearly fully awake - But Smiths are soooo confusing and I have 3 unrelated branches in my tree already. including a John Smith.... I also have lots of cherry relatives - will look up details before I post. Hope you don't mind helping.. A Alice |

If anyone fancies a challenge: I hardly dare ask! Can anyone do a 1861/51/ look up for John Smith I know this is stretching things a bit far but I am looking for John Smith born Wigston Magna Leicestershire about 1842. He is on the IGI but (would you believe?) No parents listed. Thank you to anyone brave enough to help! Alice |
