Yep your normal, ive found its the husbands that are not normal LOL, my husband now knows the routine, he knows I think about my ancestors all day in work and pop in and out of GR during lunchtime, when I come home he always says tea at 6pm which leaves me 1 hour to come on here, then at 7pm he will again say 'are you going up' and im here till I go to bed. Well trained I would say. LOL Yvonnex |

Hi all, Glad to see my thread is still going strong and I am not alone in my 'madness' ! I'm getting worse, not better and I have to force myself to try and stay away from the computer.- I think 20 - 30 minutes is the longest I can manage unless I am asleep! Well, husband is still worried (even more so) and I promised to do other things today. - Unfortunately he has taken early retirement and so is home all the time and can see what I am doing. However, his friend just phoned and as the sun is shining, wanted him to 'come out to play' - 'What a good idea' I said - THANK GOD FOR GOLF !!!!! - That gives me about 5 hours on here followed by a quick spray of the furniture polish! - I've already strategically placed the vacuum cleaner in the hall ! I have only been going this family reseach about a month , but with my mother's , mother's side i seemed to get on really well really quick BUT my husbands mother's side its totally differant so I have been obsessed with trying to find them all , he asked if i was ok , cus i sit talking to myself saying things like ' no that's not him , or maybe that's her' or scream when i have located another person to add to the tree , he is totally convinced I am making my own version of the film 'SIXTH SENSE' , but I have now convinced him to go to a cemetry looking for people ,lol , i'll have them all at it as he says looking for dead people Deb |

Good for you Ann, If thats what turns you on but don't sneer at those of us who enjoy doing something different. At 61 I still work 40 hrs a week in a very physical job & when I get home I just want to sit down. My six grandchildren are all at least two & a half hours away. I do have friends locally but as they all have partners & I am at work we don't see each other very often. The people on here are caring & helpful & I for one have a very full life on all levels. I am not suprised he is worried about you. I cant believe that some of you spend hours of your day doing this. This is the first time i have looked for about a week. I retired 18 months ago, age 68, after working full time for 53 years. I have now found, that there is a life out there, one to enjoy. I do a volunteer job in a Charity Shop, two half days a week. I go out at least once a week for lunch, have friends round for lunch, go out shopping or visiting, go for a couple of weeks now and again to my friend in Cleveleys (no computer at all) clean my house and read. In the evenings I watch a bit of tele. I also do a bit of Astrology. I have a Son with a partner, and cant wait to be a Gran. I now understand how some of you have 100's of names on your tree. I say get a life. Spend it with the living. Ann |

Hi, to everyone out there who has contracted this disease, it sure is contagious- 'My Husbands favourite saying is, 'Let the Dead sleep'. Poem below sounds like us all. GENEALOGY. Genealogy begins as an interest, Becomes a hobby, Continues as an avocation, Takes over as an obsession, And in its last stages, Is an incurable disease. Author Unknown. POEM: DEAR ANCESTOR. Your tombstone stands among the rest Neglected and alone The name and date are chiseled out On polished, marbled stone. It reaches out to all who care It is to late to mourn. You did not know that I exist. You died and I was born. Yet each of us are cells of you. In flesh, in blood, in bone. Our blood contracts and beats a pulse Entirely not our own. Dear Ancestor, the place you filled One hundred years ago. Spreads out among the ones you left Who would have loved you so. I wonder if you lived and loved, I wonder if you knew That some day I would find the spot, And come to visit you. Author Unknown. Andrea - New Zealand. |

I'm the same! Even my kids are starting to complain! Try arranging to meet people outside of the house....at least you can add that piece of info when they ask 'What did you do today?'! Just spraying the polish as an airfreshener also gives the illusion of housecleaning! Michaela |

I joined this site 2 months ago and I can't think of a better thing to have done. This is another family now, although people don't know you, everyone behaves better than many actual family members. No pulling faces when you ask for help, they do the most they can, not the least and when you find something interesting, everyone is genuinely happy for you, not wondering what they might get out of it. So good to be home guys, I wish it hadn't taken me 37 years!!! |

Of course I was in bed before 12 last night - good job hubby doesn't wear his glasses in bed! And no of course I am not at work checking on websites that have no bearing in my job. And yes if really pushed I might be able to talk about something other than dead people - it certainly doesn't help when your Mother says 'that can't be ours we don't spell our name like that' - if she only knew!!!!!!!! |

My husband told me that if I die first he will have a wreath made into the shape of a computer!!! My kids can't understand either why I'm so hung up on 'old dead geezers'.........they have got no idea just how exciting it is to find someone new! On the cert thing.........I only show my husband the ones that match.......never the bl***y lot I've wasted money on who are nothing to do with us! I don't think we need help, just a bit of understanding why there is no dinner on the go, ironing's not done, hoover has even got dust on it!!! Ok yes I'm an addict too!!!! Susan |

I have laughed and laughed reading all your messages - I must stand up and say out aloud ' I am an addict as well', but not too loud in case my hubby hears me. I have been an addict for 18 years, so there isn't any hope is there? Don't answer that - I don't really care. My family say the problem got worse in 1991 when I had my first trip to the UK with my english dad so he could show me where he was born etc, he celebrated his 70th b'day, while there, at the local cemetery hunting for relatives gravestones , he mentions it every year! I have GRSI (genealogy rsi) and have trained myself to use left hand for mouse as right hand can't do it any more,(doc got glazed look in his eye when I explained why) also GSB ( geneormous spreading behind) from sitting in front of the computer, CTES (census twitching eye syndrome), APD ( attack postie daily), ATVB ( allergy to visa bill) and finally MISS (murmuring in sleep syndrome). And people with children with ADHD think they have problems? I think we have been invaded with the letter and numbers virus - GRO, BMD,1837,GR,etc ......once it takes hold you are lost, 'cause don't virus have to run their course? No anti geneotics will help. Am I mad hehe, haha no just a geneacholic. Am I normal - well my husbands says that's debatable (while he is standing out of reach!) - He suffers from SHC (shakes head continually) and ERU (eyes roll upwards) judy * i just thought of another one - TFOM -trigger finger on mouse ( to hide census screen while at work( with hubby) update: see following recipe 5 drops of the essence of ancestry 10 drops of 1837 2 teaspoons of Free BMD a sprinkle of IGI mixt together with a cup of GRO let simmer in front of the computer for approx 8 hours and you will get a geneaholic! Oh god I have gone Mad!!! |
