Oh God! What a terrible lot of criminals we genealogists are! (Mind you, relieved Im not the only one....) What I forgot to say is that this book was not in the Libraries on-line catalogue, but I had been told of the book, emailed the library, and it was in the Local Studies Reference Library at the County Library in the area. I have to say it was the best 14.80 I have ever spent in my life. (I would gladly have paid for a pukka copy, had one been available to buy but that wasn't an option) Marjorie

Archive CD Books are at 5 Commercial Street Cinderford Gloucester GL14 2RP tel 01594 829870. Their web address is www.archivecdbooks.org. If you get the Family Tree magazine, there is an article on them in the April/May issue. They are very helpful and I'm sure would put you on the right tracks. Jan

Lily I think a few of us may agree with what Marjorie has said. I also have been desparate in the past for a particular book that was OUP and I ordered it from the library and had to pay a deposit of £40! I got my £40 back when I returned the book. Do I need to say more, but Marjorie has a point! Janet

Hi Marjorie, I do understand what you were saying lol, I had also thought of doing that, or saying that the dog had eaten it, or my daughter was sick over it, but of course I would offer to pay for a new copy. Might try to borrow it first though, thanks for the tip. Martin, doesn't sound very promising from what you say, I suppose these books are all sitting on dusty shelves, in peoples private libraries not seeing the light of day, I could wait until they 'pop' of I suppose, and do a quick dash into their Library, and 'borrow' it. LOL. thanks again

Lilly I managed to get a copy of an Out of Print book, which had only been issued for private circulation, through my Inter-Counties Library Lending Service. It cost me £2 (for postage) and of course, I had to return it. But....How can I say this? Erm, I used lots of 10p pieces to erm....148 pages. Hope you understand this highly illegal gibberish! Marjorie

Acordinding to the British Library catalogue it was 'printed for private circulation'. So does not look very promising. I would try searching for specialist bookshops in Cumbria. MB

Hi Jan, is it possible for you to give me deatils of archives CD's, I tried google, but you can imagine I got loads of results, and I'm not sure which one I am looking for, if I could get it on CD, at least I could read it, while I am waiting for the book to appear, not sure from where lol, but it would be a start....email me with details, if you would rather....thanks ...Lilly Hi Hilary, Thanks for you suggestion of the Library, but as you say I have to give it back, but could read it first...couldn't I? lol....thanks Lilly

Hi lilly, have you tried your local library, I wanted a book that was out of print and the Library do a search all over the country. It does'nt cost much either. The only thing is you have to return it.

I tried to get a book called The Robbins family history of England as it had been written by an ancestor of mine. He wrote it in 1908 and I tried all the usual avenues and then found Archive CD's. They scan old books and put them onto CD's. I phoned, placed an order and it came within three days. How's that for service!!
