Been trying to get onto FamilyRelatives.org but can't get on is this the right web address? Maggie

It really isn't any better than 1837 online since 1837 improved their search facilities and indexing. I tested BMDIndex by putting in a search for birth of Sampson Waltho from 1855 to 1859 (5 years as they suggest). It came up with every quarter for every year. So that would mean you could end up spending 20 credits. How common do you think that name is? I know he was born in 1856 as I have his birth certificate. I certainly will be sticking to FamilyRelatives where you can at least do a proper search between 1866 and 1920. Jane

What a rude post! Oh well everyone has their opinion. I have a feeling she'll be back at BMD with her tail between her legs later on when shes too annoyed at 1837.

For anyone with access to the February edition of Your Family Tree/Your Family History, issue 21, there is an interesting article explaining all the whys and wherefors. The article makes it sound ok but I suppose wewill ly find out by using it. Grace

Just spent £5 for 50 credits, no different to 1837online you still can get a page without your name on it, find it quite slow as well. Handy to have another site though if you can't get onto 1837online Maggie

I can't see the difference between this and the search on 1837 online. You still have to look at the image to see if it's the person you want and that costs you a credit - the person may not be on that page. Am I missing something?

Sounds like a great site and will have to have a look but can bet they will be like 1837 and family rellies and not accept Electron card payments so I'll still be blagging look ups on the indexes! Lou

I haven't used it, but I'm going to. Wonder if it's better than 1837 etc and how it works etc. Similar to family relatives website, transcriptions. This could be worth looking at, 1837 online had better look over its shoulder, and family relatives too for that matter. What does everyone think? And has anyone used this site and has working knowledge of it? Steve

Strange implementation - doesnt it just react to your User-Id and password like the other sites ? I'll finally go and look ! Its waffling (excuse the pun) about COOKIES and 'computers', cant see why it would matter once you've got a Cookie established on each PC ? Remember now why I didnt sign up - unlike the other sites, you have to pay immediatly you join.

Only problem I can see with this as far as I'm concerned is that I use the PC both at work and at home and it will count each login as a 'new' browser and lock out the account after three uses. Trudy

I hadnt looked closely before - if what they say is true, they are SERIOUS competition to 1837Online and FamilyRelatives.org .. On this site we currently have 166 years of Births and Deaths plus 153 years of Marriages records online, easily searchable by first name and surname. ----------------------------------------------------- Earlier indexes are currently held in image format and are being added to all the time. Unlike other services these are indexed by Surname, Forename and Initial, where required, to enable you to quickly look up the entries you require and use very few credits in the process. We currently have complete: Birth records from 1837-2003 Marriages from 1850-2003 Deaths from 1837-2003 Marriages will soon go back to 1837 as well.

The site www.(BMDindex).co.uk (remove brackets) now has the following images for the GRO BMD index; 1837- 1983 for births and deaths, and 1850-1893 for marriages. Cost is £15 for 200 images.
