Thanks again .... I think I found that on FreeBMD but I cant really tie it in with my Robert. If I can find that couple on a later census with a son Robert born circa 1859 then it woud seem more probable. I have no other clues at the moment. Thanks appreciate your time. |

Thanks Johnathon but his son Robert was born about 1859 (age stated as 37 on marriage certificate 27 April 1896). Will bear it in mind though. Thanks |

UPDATE: Thought you would like to know that I today received the marriage certificate. Pryna Jane Jones aged 33 (spinster) married Robert Jones aged 37 (widower) at the Parish Church in the Parish of St John Baptist Cardiff on 27 April 1896. My grandmother was born a month later! His father was Goodman Jones (deceased) and a caterer. Her father was Philip Jones and a collier. Now on the trail of Goodman Jones. Again, I thought that would be easy but can't find him on the 1881! Perhaps he was dead. Can anyone find him on an earlier census with a son Robert born circa 1859. |

Thanks Louise ... hmmm does not sound like my Robert on the 1901 census. As far as I am aware my grandmother Maud only had the one sister Florence. Will bear the Merthyr one in mind though, thanks! |

Thanks everyone for all your searches, sorry I was not around at the time. Helen's 1881 looks promising, name and dates fit. I have ordered the marriage certificate between Pryna Jane Jones and Robert Jones (found by Janice earlier in the thread). 99% certain this is the mother and father. Mother's maiden name was also Jones as shown on youngest daughter's (Florence) birth certificate, and her father Robert was supposedly a journeyman at this time of life. Also interesting about the name sounding Indian, descendent of Florence thinks the family may have spent time in India. This may be a red herring though. Trying to think what must have happened for daughters to be put in home. After birth of Maud in Cardiff the family must have moved to West Derby where daughter Florence was born. I think husband Robert may have come from that area. Maud's middle name was Halsall and there are plenty of them in West Derby. On Maud's marriage certificate her father is listed as a stone mason and just had another look at 1901 census and think this could be Robert & Florence: Florence JONES Page ID D16AF5E3C42FF409 Person ID 28C35D6D1B6743EC Age 4 4 Year Born 1897 Where Born West Derby Lanc Census Place West Derby Lancashire Robert JONES Page ID D16AF5E3C42FF409 Person ID 327F4FF99A7698A2 Age 34 34 Year Born 1867 Where Born Liverpool Lanc Census Place West Derby Lancashire Monumental Mason Not sure who else was in household at this time. Maybe mother Pryna was there too but not been able to verify. According to Jess's earlier message Maud was showing as resident in an Industrial School in 1901, perhaps because Pryna had left the family or maybe died and Robert could not cope with both children. That's all I have to go on at the moment but again, really appreciative of all the help and searches everyone has done for me. I will keep a copy of the thread in case further down the line some of the info given here slots into place. Thanks Sue |
