Slightly Dumb Question - Registration Districts

I'm trying (so far in vain!) to find a birth registration for one of my 4xgrandparents children. I've now found him on the 1861 census stating his birthplace as St George in the East. I've tried Genuki but all it says for SGITE is Created 1837, abolished 1926, incorporated into Stepney district. Does anyone know what areas it covered and would Stepney, c.1840, have come under SGITE? Thanks Lou |
