Hello What a great thread! My brick wall has been on before and I was very grateful for the help, but maybe this time I will have more luck. I can't find the birth of Thomas Parsons born 1818 Cork Ireland. He was in England from at least Nov 1841 when he married Sarah Biggs. According to the marriage certificate his father, Charles, was deceased and the witnesses names are none that I recognise. Kind fellow GR members found him in the 1841 census' onwards to 1881. Any help finding his birth would really be appreciated. Kathy |

My brickwall is trying to find Miles Haley whose wife was Mary Finn, no other information on either of them. They had a son Charles Haley born 28.6.1881 in Endell Street Workhouse. Father Miles was a costermonger. As the census was taken in April I should be able to find Miles and Mary in 1881. Their son Charles went on to marry my grandmothers sister in 1901 when he said his father Miles was deceased. Any help appreciated. Pat. |

William Goadby and his brother Joseph Goadby born Leicester 1871 and 1873 respectively. I have them on the 1891 and 1901 censuses, but not on the 1881. Their mother, Ann Goadby (nee Bodycote - later Smith and Riley) is also missing from the 1881 but their sister Sarah Ann Goadby is on the 1871 with her parents, 1881 with relatives, and 1891 and 1901 with her husband Harry Moir and their children. I've even tried the workhouse, but they aren't there either. Any ideas anyone? Sheila |

This thread is a good idea....I've been up against my brickwall for years. However if someone out there is looking for a challenge, and I mean a challenge - and you manage to shed ANY light on this puzzle, well...I'll love you forever!!!! John Samuel MITCHELL. Born c1897, no birth or death record England & Wales. His father was Peter MITCHELL, family rumour says possible Irish / Scottish / Canadian connection (Winnipeg). John Samuel MITCHELL married Mary Ethel Mills Whittlesey on 17 October 1920 in Marylebone, London. They lived at 4 Hereford St, Marylebone. I have their marriage cert. It says he was a postman - but London Postal archives have no record of him. They had one son, Raymond Mitchell in 1927 (my father). John Samuel Mitchell disappeared in 1934. |

Hello, My two problems or two main problems are: Mary Theresa Fitzgerald was supposed to marry a scottish Army Officer Captain Bernard Cochrane 1851-1855. Have searched 1837 online plus local parish records for marriage. No luck! Their first child Hannah Cochrane shows on census as being born in Woolwich,Kent 1852-1853. Searched 1837 online & local parish records for her birth again Nothing!!! Mary is shown as unmarried on 1851 census Greenwich,Kent age 23 born Ireland Mary Fitzgerald (maiden name). Cant find her or him on 1861 census or any of their children. 1871 1881 1891 Have her and her children always living in St Pauls,Deptford. I cant get back any further without a location in Ireland for her only info is she came from county Cork. Same with him I know he died in Crimean war but no location for Scotland so two dead ends!!! If anyone can help I would be over the moon! Jenny |

hello all -completely stuck on this one: William Cooper, born c1847 Bishop Auckland, on 1901 he appears, married to a Jane born 1855, Stockton, Durham. By the time of one of his daughters' marriage in 1915 he had died. He worked at the gas mains. I just cannot find him anywhere previous to 1901, but I know that (presumably after his marriage, as they both come from Durham) he moved to Yorkshire, probably the Bramley area. Sally |
