http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/Census.html census information is to be found in GENUKI at the level of the separate countries making up the UK and Ireland The 1901 Census of England and Wales is available online, with a free index search facility. To accompany this new resource, the Public Record Office have produced a fascinating set of pages entitled 1901: Living at the Time of the Census. Ancestry provides census record images, with partial or in some cases complete freely-searchable indexes, of England, Wales, Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man for 1871 and 1891, and of England for 1901. The L.D.S. (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) have provided free online search facilities of a detailed transcription of the 1881 British Census (England, Wales, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man only). The FreeCEN Project is a volunteer effort to provide a free online searchable database of detailed transcriptions of the 19th century UK census returns, initially concentrating mainly on those for 1891. The Victorian Census Project at Staffordshire University aims to computerise a number of source documents and related materials relating to Great Britain in the mid-nineteenth century. A lot of interesting and useful background information is provided on the page entitled ' Census Enumerators' Books'. A searchable database of places in the 1891 census. This covers England, Wales and the Isle of Man and returns the County, Registration District, Registration Sub-District, PRO Piece Number and LDS Film Number. Jeff Magg's Index to Institutions in the 1901 Census of England and Wales Barry Ruck's Mini FAQ deals primarily with matters involving the census. 1901 Census - Royal Navy Ships - Jeffery Knaggs has compiled an index to Royal Navy ships that were at sea or in ports abroad on 31st March 1901. 1901 Census - Institutions - Jeffery Knaggs is compiling an index to Institutions on the 1901 Census of England and Wales. British Census Indexes, Transcripts, and Images Available Online or on CD - a useful summary from Daniel Morgan. Statistics from the 2001 census provided by 'National Statistics' (formerly the Office of National Statistics). A Vision of Britain Through Time. Information from the 1801 to 2001 censuses arranged by local-authority area. Limited access to the 1911 census will be possible before the normal release date of 2012 - see the the National Archives's page http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/1911census/ Although the 1911 census as a whole is still 'closed', you can now ask for details of who lived at a specified address. The National Archives can provide you with a copy of the census return for that address, except for any particularly private information about the people living there. ………………………. There is currently a non-refundable fixed fee of £45 (including VAT) that covers searching for the census return for the address you have specified. If anything is found, a copy will be made and sent to you. |
