Original Added by Paul Barton on 06/04/2006 20:00:09 Two excellent London websites I haven't seen mention of two websites which I find invaluable for researching London ancestors. The city of London's 'Collage' website (Google 'Collage London') has thousands of images from their collection... all superbly indexed. Motco-dot-com has images too plus fully searchable London maps from the Victorian and Georgian eras. Both these websites are a fantastic resource if you're researching London, but they both have images of places outside London too and plenty of international material. I've bookmarked them and I strongly recommend others to do the same. |

Hi Amazing site is www.parishregister.com this has a search facility and for £2.95 you can get birth details for all the surname searched for in one parish. (If that makes sense). Covers Poplar, Wapping, Limehouse, Stepney, Ratcliff, Whitechapel, Shadwell, London Docks & Isle of Dogs. Chris |

I hope you don't think I'm trying to teach my grandmother to suck eggs but ....... Visiting London..... If you visit the FRC you can buy the Alan Godfrey Edition Old Ordnance Survey Maps of London. These help you pinpoint specific address' , churches, hospitals, schools etc. From these you can then search various things at the LMA.e.g. school entry/dismisal books, church records etc... LMA has a lot of their stuff indexed on-line. Worth while searching the website to outline what you want to look at when you go. This all saves you a lot of time wadeing through mountains of information which you don't need/want. Try and do as much preparation work as possible before your visit. Sorry I've gone on a bit but hope it helps someone!!! Viv |
