I have a King as a first name on my tree his surname is Fisher Then his younger sister was named Queen. She married a lowly Tom Brown and called one of her sons King after her brother. Not wanting to have ordinary names seemed to run in the family because one of Kings sons called his son Rainbow Brown, wanted a little more colour in his life I expect! Great huh! Its all true. What a family!

My mum's maiden name and her sister in law's married name are B. Day. Well..I find it funny! The worst christian name in my tree is Fountain, which got dutifully passed down for a few generations. It's a male's name of course. Sharon

When I was little there were two men who lived near us and their christian names were Cordite and Shrapnel. They would have been born in the 1920's. What a sense of humour their parents had!!!!!!!! Linda

According to the Summer newsletter of The Family Records Centre, on 8th January 1883 a birth was registered in the West Derby district. I have been transcribing records from the 1800's and have come across a few interesting forenames: Job, Doctor, Lettice .... It was also common practice to give a child the mother's maiden surname as their forename eg. Ramsbottom I suppose it could be helpful to future generations of family history researchers to be searching for a Job instead of a John!

Heres one for a laugh - one of my ancestors is called montague ongley stead in one census and montague coningsby stead in another!

I've come across a family with some quite unusual middle names for their children: Henry Ellacombe, John Naish and George Rowland Torrance, none of which were earlier surnames. Also one married a Virtue Sebra Thompson. Also have names of Gladstone, Rhymer (!), Snowdon and Lancelot.
