Two of the females in tree I am researching have Bower and Milson as middle names. I think it's a way of keeping family names, they are both eldest daughters.

Years ago a good friend of mine was at school with a Richard William Cox. I noticed someone has recently found a Christmas Olley - did they aspire to marrying an Ivy? On a different vein what about perfect marriages. Whilst researching Norwich Archive (incidently a magnificent facility and well worth a visit for the 'Broad minded') I came across Banns for a Pitcher to marry a Potter and an Easter to marry a Halliday. Of course with a name like mine there is no shortage of W.Olleys etc. My favourite name blunder was one I heard over a tannoy in my place of work 20 years ago. The format was for staff in the telephone room to tannoy staff using their title, initial and surname ie Mrs J Smith. There was one exception which was not pointed out to a new girl - a certain Mr Peter Henis. Think about it. Well you can imagine that was bad enough, but she kept her finger on the tannoy button and stepped right into it when she then added 'Oh my God I just said P****'

Came across a first name of Walter. Not too bad considering the era - mid 1800's. But the surname was Salter! Another bad example was Keith Heath.

I came across the name 'Bright' in my family tree and originally thought it was a misspelling of Bridget. Then I found a second record of her complete with her maiden name which, unfortunately, was.....White! How anyone could be stupid enough to call their daughter 'Bright White' is beyond me. Makes her sound like a paint colour.

Talking of football teams, I have several ancestors named Oldham (from Lincolnshire, late 18th/early 19th century, so probably no connection) as well as two called Plant. Apparently there was a Sue who married a Japanese named Mr Doku, and thought nothing of it until the craze for a certain logic puzzle took off... and at one point my school had two chemistry teachers named Mr Cox and Mr P Ennis.

My uncle (through marriage on my Nash line) had the middle name Clare. One of the older aunts was Fanny Miranda, and on my Thompson line Hindhaugh keeps creeping up as a middle name. Love the ones about modern names, goodness knows what will happen when they all start looking for footballers names later on... Magi
