I have someones middle name as Wellington, which followed down a few generation, also King (which wasn't a surname derivative), I also have a first christian name of Bateman,

A friend of mine called her son Benjamin, thats not funny! the regastrar started to spell it BENJ and my friend finished it with AMIN. it wasn't until she got home he was called benjamin AMIN, she was going to leave it until all the family pointed out IDI AMIN was one of Africas biggest mass murderers and she might just as well call him HITLER,The messing around she had trying to get it removed, the regastrar said he was used to strange names,and it was easy to add a name than to take one away, it took about 6 weeks to be sent from London!MOE!

My favourite from my tree is Fingal Pillinger (what a mouthful!), although I quite like Lydia Barrell (my husband just calls her Barrel Lid) Linda

My husband has two Prothesias on his family tree. But that isn't the rarest name I've found. My own great aunt was named Eflina. I don't know if her parents made that one up....I've been trying to find out where it came from and why for years. Someone I knew with a new born son wanted to call him Simon but their surname was Pratt. Fortunately they realised he would go through life called Spratt in time! Parents should be very careful about initials they use as well as odd names. Sue

How about Adelaide Azalea as middle names. They belonged to my mother, claims it was her fathers idea because he liked Australia, then he went off to Australia and left them!

what were these parents thinking lol, on a serious point, if anyone has come across the 'middle' name FANERAL, in any f their research, could you let me know?# havent come across it anywhere, even in my BIG BOOK of names,places and surnames! and This book lists everything and everywhere!

I agree, some parents need examining. Wish I had some of these names in my tree, would make finding them SO much easier, mine are all very common except Bowler and Farmer(not a surname as far as I can tell) and unfortunately they are not directly inline.

I have the surname CHRISTMAS in my tree.. Dont think my ancesters go back to the original family......... but I do get to search my trees for Christmas...

How about Zoraster/Zorcaster as a middle name, he was born ona ship of the same name while his family were on their way to South Africa in the early 1800's.

We have Barker as a Christian name running through my husband's tree. It's been brilliant for tracing relatives. We had it running with the Garratt family and have now picked it up in the Battison line before them taking the first use of this name back to the late 1500s at the latest!

My grgrandfather was Caleb Mower (mothers maiden name) I think he should have been a gardener. Page as both first and middle name are extremely common in my tree, I havent yet found where that came from! Michaela

My friend Miss Batty taught in the same school as a Miss Burke and a Mr Nutter! Must have caused some mirth among the kids! Lunar - Wasn't Big Bertha a World War ONE gun? Surprising that your gran was given the name in spite of its noise being heard on the south coast only a few years before she was born!

I had a great grandfather who must have had a sense of humour. His childrens last name was Swinburn and here are some of their furst and second names. William Emperingham, Aaron St.Bernard Easter Daisy, she was born on Easter Sunday. Jack Alpine I have never found out where he found these names but it has made finding them on the census much easier. Mary

Another silly name for you. There's an ice hockey player called Paul Sample...otherwise P Sample! These parents just don'e think do they? How do they explain Austin Healey. Supppose if they'd been Mr and Mrs Oxford they'd've called him Maurice! Sheila

My gt,gt,gt,grandfather was called - Linfitt Whittaker!!!! All his family have ordinary names such as George or William so God only knows why they chose Linfitt. Maybe it's their version of our beyonce, duaine, or britney?

My Great great grandad was Farewell Havenhand, made him fairly easy to find on census returns. I've not come across many other Farewell's, I wonder if it was a message from his mum to his dad.... Steve
