Hello Jess Sorry, I clicked the wrong button and contacted you direct but here I am again asking for your help if possible. Will be v grateful if u wud look for GEORGE PEEK (sometimes spelled Peake) on 1861 and 1871 census. He was born 1853/1854 Charlton Kent (Greenwich area). His father was Samuel. George appears on 1881 census married and living in Lewisham (Greenwich) so it seems he was always in that area. I particularly want his mother's name and to know if he had any siblings. Also SARAH JANE ROSS on 1891 census. She was born 31.5.1860 Portsea/Portsmouth. She's on 1881 census working as a domestic for elderly couple in Brighton then I lose her. Have not found a marriage and am stuck. Tku again Christine |

Hi Jess Thanks for the offer. Could you look up Emily Skeats in the 1901 Census please? She was born in about 1887 and her father was Caleb Skeats, a policeman. They lived in London, somewhere, although I'm not sure where. Thanks Tracey |

Christine, can find a possible George in 1861 but not realy worth posting as i cant be sure it is him - his father is absent. and he is only born 'kent' Sarah Jane , again, will probably have married by 1891 and so you really need to find out a little more about her and where she went if you can. I know ,its a bit chicken and egg!! |

Thanks Jess. I'm more interested in Emily's family, as I know nothing about them and am hoping to find out more. Emily is my great grandmother and I'm hoping to use the census to go back further, as she is as far as I have got. I have Emily's marriage certificate, which gives her father's name and occupation, but nothing else about him. According to her marriage certificate, Emily was 22, when she got married, in 1909, so I don't think that is the same Emily. I could not read the occupation very well, for Caleb, but it said something C.I.D Metropolitan Police, so I assume he was a policeman and they lived in London. Although my mother is pretty sure he was a fireman... |

Tracy. i think the faimly i have found, despite the Emily you want not being there, is probably Emilys family (poss named after her mother?) the combination of Caleb, Policeman, In London AND the surname would be enough for me- unlikely that i would find another one. Have you traced her birth? ( i will have a look) possibles Name: SKEATS, Emily Record Type: Births Quarter: June Year: 1886 District: Edmonton County: Essex Hertfordshire Middlesex Volume: 3a Page: 374 (click to see others on page This will tell you both parents name. If you send for it to the gro ask for checking point CALEB fathers name. |

Thanks Jess. No I haven't traced her birth yet. I was hoping that if I could find her in the census, it would give me her place of birth, which would help :-(. Thanks. I'll send off for that one, and see if it is the same Emily. Could you see if you can find Caleb and Emily (husband and wife) on the 1891 census please? Thanks very much for your help. |

Tracy- 14 wasn't young to have left home in 1901 - she was probably in service somewhere, and may have been so or some time. The problem is, (with the name being so easily mis-spelled or read) and that her employer may have just said London as her birth place and she could be any one of pages and pages of Emilys born that year' will have a look for her, wouldn't hold out much hope Do you know where she got married?YES YOU ALREADY TOLD ME!! this looks promising.. HOWITT, Charles William 1909 March Marriages Edmonton Essex Hertfordshire Middlesex KEENE, Arthur Albert 1909 March Marriages Edmonton Essex Hertfordshire Middlesex PAVITT, Alice Kate 1909 March Marriages Edmonton Essex Hertfordshire Middlesex ->>SKEATS, Emily 1909 March Marriages Edmonton Essex Hertfordshire Middlesex |
