Hi,to all searchers- Probably a basic question, sorry- are there reliable lists of what can be accessed for free? e.g. I saw reference to accessing the Times through library membership. I'm very interested in shipping lists, and work guilds etc.

Using batch numbers. Batch numbers are used to identify the sources of records included on the I.G.I. (International Genealogical Index). One useful thing that this can be used for is searching for siblings of an ancestor. When searching for a baptism on the IGI, clicking on the one that you think is yours, shows a batch number at the bottom. (This does not happen when someone has submitted the data - so look for another entry with the same information, that does have the batch number, if possible). Click on the batch number, and it will allow you to search within this batch number. Enter only the surname and the parent/s first names and search. This will bring up all the children baptised in the same place to the parents that match the names given. (if you have common parent names like John and Mary , then check with census records for order of children, to eliminate those that may not belong). This also allows you to find children that were born and died between Census records. Regards June

I got a copy of a document from Trinty House and found loads of information about my family as my ancestor was a mariner.Found out about the document by putting in the name of my ancestor in A 2 A. The same goes for the Times Newspaper which is free to search if you join Bedfordshire Library online(its free to join) Good luck Irene
