does anyone know if there is a centralised register of children baptised into the Roman Catholic Church - for example do Priests have to make returns to their Bishop - or the Pope even - of how many baptisms they have done. I have been told that I was baptised RC although when adopted I was brought up in a Baptist family. Have contacted the RC church where this was most likely to have happened - they replied after 12 months and a nudge - to say their records were stored in some other building, and they would check - still awaiting a reply. If there was a central register, it might be quicker and easier. It was in wartime - ww2 - so possibly a bit chaotic. |

If a family member from Wales was a mariner during the nineteenth century, then doing a database search at the Welsh Mariners site could be useful. [http://www(.)welshmariners(.)org(.)uk] And it's free! |

The Genealogist's Internet by Peter Christian 3rd ed 2005 is highly recommended. Like the book previously mentioned it has an internet site www.spub.co.uk/tgi3/links.php which contains links to all sites mentioned. Borrow the book from your local library |
